VRCC New England breakast northeast of Danbury CT
Weather is 21 right now with ice storm coming
I put on my chaps to take the police bike (love the heated grips) but thought better of it once I opened the garage door and looked west as my ice handling skills are not as good as some on this board
So as I sit here taking off the chaps and warming up I have to acknowledge that sometimes the important thing is just arriving safely
Since the rear tire disaster in DesMoines on my way to Spearfish I am more likely not to obsess over change in transportation plans
The important thing is to get to breakfast and BACK safely and see Dan-Bury and Karen. I will look at any falling ice from the safety of inside my ancient Camry and with the heat blasting nicely
What is the worst conditions and temp you will ride in This is an hour plus each way on the superhighway, it would be 90 minutes plus on slick back roads on the way home, I have done this ride at 18 degrees before but with clear skies and dry roads

bummer on the bad weather but better safe than sorry. 70' here in Georgia and 60's today, so think I'll take a little ride. Being formally from Michigan a ride in January was unheard of there. speaking of breakfast.....think I'll put on a little bacon for mine before I head out. Be safe.........

Hope you guys have a great breakfast -80* on a Honda XL125. But now as an old man, probably 20* is as low as I would go.

We currently have rolling thunder and freezing rain. My garage will nicely snuggle my bikes for a while! I did ride about two hours in 18" of snow on I-40 back in 75....... Frostbit my feet rather badly.

It is still fun to roll when it is cold, and I'll leave out to meet folks for a planned ride in chilly rain, but freezing and wet is asking for trouble... -Mike "it wasn't wet this day..."

If dry roads I will ride with my heated vest, heated gloves and heated handlebar grips turned nearly to maximum.
The right clothing makes a very significant difference.
Slightest hint of lingering black ice in the shadows and the bike stays in the garage.

The important thing is to get to breakfast and BACK safely and see Dan-Bury and Karen. I will look at any falling ice from the safety of inside my ancient Camry and with the heat blasting nicely Evan, I think you made the right choice to complete your stated goal. I won't ride in weather under 40 degrees, the run off can turn to ice and ice ain't cool unless you're fishing or skating.

As I often tell folks who question why I was riding any particular cold day. I can dress for cold, I don't know how to dress for slick icy roads. Good decision on your part Oss. Arriving safely ensure you'll be able to make that next trip. Good use of the "ole nogg'n".

I generally don't ride when temps are cold enough to cause ice. I can handle cold, but motorcycles and ice is a prescription for "cops and docs".

As you git older Evan you WILL notice yer tolerance fer cold not as tolerable as it once wuz! Freezing rain yesterday and cold rain today here in da Sho-Me. Warm house hot coffee gonna make a batch of biscuits an gravy and have some more hot coffee. Oh-B T W-Excellent choice on the mode of transportation. RIDE SAFE.

+ 1 on ICE being a bitch no matter how many wheels you have. I don't generally ride below 40 at all any more, and not too far below 50 when riding to work. And I will not LEAVE on a ride when it's raining if at all possible. Getting caught out is a different matter (riding to work and having to ride home in the wet falls under this category).

I normally won't head out this time of year till after lunch. By that time frost on the shaded corners will be gone or nearly gone. Usually won't ride till the temps get near 40. But since the weather has been bad since the first part of December, may try to go out for very short ride later today. Temps around 30 are projected. Won't be a long ride maybe 30 minutes or so, just enough to get the old girl moving and cure some of the shakes I have been having from not riding.

Frost on a 20 mph curve on the way to the Or. coast ended my riding days. I should have stayed home. Went into a ditch at ten mph an over the windshield onto the back of my left shoulder an experianced the most pain I could imagine. That's when I decided to stop riding while laying on the shoulder of the road. 71 years old and had put 160000 miles on my Valk in almost 12 years.

As long as the roads are dry and salt free, i've been riding each day. Found that 14 deg. is too cold. Wanted to see how low I could go. Now, I will only go out if it is 20 deg. or above.
