I know it seemed like Tuesday would never come. But it finally did. I'm hoping Lori's surgeon performs his best piece of work in his career. Best wishes  cooldude

Yes, it's here.  She's scheduled for 15:00 Central time.  Due to the complications of the blood clots the surgeon has told her there's a possibility that he will get into it and have to back out and let another address the hernia but he thinks he can do it with minimal incisions.  She's a bit tense.

I'll to be with her and in the waiting room for most of the day.

Mama is off to recovery.

Two and a half hours the surgeon worked.  He very much wants to avoid the old style opening up the entire stomach, that is to get it done lapriscopically.  He made the choice to back away and make contacts tomorrow to try again with different equipment and/or surgeon.

This was the news I was hoping not to hear but I appreciate the willingness to make the correct decision in the face of frustration.

I just spoke with Lori Beth on the phone.  They are transferring her today to KU Med Center.  I guess that's where the expertise and equipment needed are.

She's very frustrated at this time and having a hard time keeping a positive attitude.

Thanks Willow, good to hear she's being moved to where she needs to be.
Any indication as to when they may go back in or are they still googling how to do it?

...and I'll try to maintain a positive attitude for her, for whatever good that'll do...  crazy2

I know that it's frustrating that it isn't completed yet.

You can take comfort in knowing that she is going to be in the most capable hands possible to complete it.

Tell her to hang in there, we'll be praying for her.

I couldn't find the "How to Hernia Surgerize" Video when I searched Google, I'm sure Serk can locate it with his interweb super-powers.

Seriously, best wishes Lori, praying for the best possible outcome.  Make Willow do all the heavy lifting from here on out.

She's checked into KU Med Center.  The word now is that they will work on fluids today and tomorrow and hope for surgery on Friday.

KU Med Center is reputed to have the finest surgeons and state of the art equipment.

Lori Beth called me this morning saying that she had a 102 degree temp and they were taking her to surgery.  By the time I got here she was out.  The doctor talked with me.  He says they needed to go in (tests?) to be sure there was no tear or bleeding from the previous surgery.  While he had her there he did an endoscopy.

At this time he believes that due to the clots in the right lung and BMI they should put off the hernia repair.  She's still in recovery.  He indicated that with the factors involved the failure rate within a year for hiatal hernia repair is around thirty percent.

I'm still waiting on her coming up from recovery.

The doctor I spoke to is one who does a lot of repair work on failed surgeries.  I think she is in good hands.

She's Lori Holmes in room 6 of the cardio hospital if that helps anyone.

Carl, the lady in the senior apartment next to me is in her 80's.  She is doubled over with arthritis.  She has had severe problems with her esophagus and has been in the hospital numerous times in the last six months.

She now is home and doing very well.  Ft. Wayne has good doctors but not better than the ones in your town.  I'm mentioning this only to reassure that medicine has come a long ways.

When good medicine is combined with good prayers, the results will be good.

Prayers still coming from this ole geezer.

Actually her husband is spending no time at home except for sleeping.

The doctor updated her this morning and she has been very frustrated.  We're dealing with life but sometimes it gets her down.

Tough day.  No one is hurt physically any more than has been.  Emotions and mindsets have been aggravated.  Frustration mutates to anger, sometimes in the wrong direction.  It looks to be an extended ordeal.  Issues need to be resolved before further progress.

Carl, You and Lori can blame everything on me, I'm far enough away to avoid most of the direct blows, but close enough, and large enough, to present as an excellent target! Plus I'm ornery enough to just come out there and yell at the Doctors & such, at a moment's notice. Please use the last option sparingly, as I would have to find cat sitters... the whole house is teeming with those who need pink hats...

Motomama is going home.  This afternoon I will be taking Lori home from the hospital. It's not the end but the beginning of the next trek of this adventure.  It will be good to have Lori at home again but I'll need to work on her to be developing the discipline to dial down her activity.
