That's why I've always wished they'd chose to produce this one instead... Wow that is soo sweet! I'm in love!!!! Drool!!! I have found the rev limiter on the 1800c at 123 and once three of us on 1500s (spaced way out in line) hit 138 after a long final climb, it was a very quiet road near me. I am convinced it was not a true 138 as in my experience same as my GSX 1100 the faster I go the more the speedo is off. None-the-less it was fun!! No matter, the thing that I keep coming back to is these 1500s are my top pick of all time! They are so amazing! they are so satisfying and beautiful! So there is nothing out there that can beat my bike that looks this good saving maybe another 1500.

Btw, just what airliner did you take your GPS on? cooldude I didn't think airlines flew that fast. I had an old GPS I bought used. The highest speed box was 638 mph. Don't know how he got that kind of speed reading. I ride an ST1100 (Honda, V-4, ~100 HP, ~70 torque, 5 speed, shaft drive) that I GPS speed of 117 mph. Had some left but why? The urban myth has it at 132 mph. Several have said 4th gear will get you a higher top end as the torque won't pull much in 5th at top end. I don't know. You can't even trust a GPS for actually results. My GPS currently shows a 151 mph average over 127,000 miles. It glitched once and gave me a top speed of 1100 something MPH on my ST1300 (they're faster then a Valk but not that much!). If the computers errr's for just a millisecond it will think your are 1,000's of miles from where you just where and give a big bad mistake.

I did a quick spin around the block and noted about 17-18 MPH per 1k rpm in top gear--at 7,300 RPM where the rev limiter kicks in means we top out at 124-133 mph running Dunlop Elite 3's...it sounds like pretty good running thru an open viking header going thru the first couple of gears..it sure sounds like it would go 150..it's a nice heavy stable and reliable machine

I must say, I'm impressed. It's usually long before this that some killjoy has jumped into the discussion to enlighten us as to the folly of the subject of speed on big ol lumbering land yachts such as these because they're not built for that so what do you buy a bike like this for if you want to race and if you want to go that fast just get one of them damn Ninja-bikes. I'm so glad nobody has done that, because then I'd have to pull the 'why do people race lawn tractors' argument out again, at which point voices get raised and then the weapons come out and somebody inevitably brings up my record (my crime of passion) and things get totally out of hand.
Perhaps there's hope for civilization after all.

I have this friend Chris who when he first saw my Valkyrie brought back a memory of his at Killcare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio. Chris went to bike drags in early 2000s and this guy had a Valkyrie going up against all sorts of bikes including sport bikes. The announcer poo poo ed the Valk until it wiped out all the competition and won the trophy. I imagine the guy tricked it out.

I couldn't believe my numbers and yours were so far apart so I took the Interstate out tonight to verify. My Valkyries are dead on 45 mph indicated at 2,000 RPM in fifth gear and a little over 65 at 3,000. If one could run it to the rev limiter in top gear that would yield about 164 mph indicated. All that to say I really don't think the rev limiter is a factor in top speed for the Valk.

I say the sportster 1200 has you on the jump 1st and some of 2nd gear off the line, but into 2nd gear into 3rd, you will pass the HD, that is my take. A sportster got the jump on me at the light but caught him into 2nd gear and I was gone after that.
As far as 1800VTX vs. 1500 Valkyrie, I also think the VTX off line is faster but the Valk will be a smidge faster with the right rider that is after 1st gear.

I see the need for speed up to a point. Have not broken the 100 mph mark on the VAlk yet nor any of my vehicles since around 1987 when I borrowed dad's old 1976 caprice classic boat machine and hit around 115 mph or so and backed off as well as borrowing my brothers 1985 suzuki GS550L done 105 mph before the front end got pretty light at those speeds.
Now I am lucky to go 85 mph in anything anymore. Just see no need for speeds greater than that unless at the race track. I find going 0-70 mph just as thrilling as quickly as I can go at those speeds.

Here here - I'm rarely more than 10 MPH over posted - but I get there as quick as me and the vehicle is capable of doing it. I can honestly say that the fastest I've ever been in /on a road vehicle under my control is about 85-90 MPH .

I found myself on an airbase runway one day and could resist leaving my buddies on this group ride for the troops.I swung out to the left and put the hammer down.Speedo was showing 135 and it was still pulling when I got out of it.Four sport bikes ahead of me and about a thousand harleys behind me.Good times I know these speedometers read high, would love to try that again with speedo corrected.
