SOOOOO today is a great day here in the Detroit area (for freakin' February).. home from work.. have a few hours...

Let's ride!!!

So I had the bike running great last week... fired right up as I keep it on a battery tender and start it one a month just so I can hear it and not go out of my mind in the snowy sh**ty months here in Michigan, also to keep the carbs good n clean... plus Seafoam...

SOOOOO any-who.......

Go out, hit her with the polish a bit to get the dust off.... put on my jacket, get the helmet and gloves ready..... put in the key.... turn it forward......

Nothing... no dash, no idiot lights.... nothing......

SH*T......!!!!!!!

Start checking things... connections , pull the battery cover off... terminals tight... nothing seems to be outta place.....

Then I notice... the battery tender is not plugged in...... but I know the light was on when I hooked it up last week......

So note to you all... a battery tender, when NOT PLUGGED IN, will drain the battery dry as $%^ in a week...

So much for a ride today..... Always some IDIOT spoils a possible good ride..... uglystupid2

does a battery tender NOT plugged in for 1 week actually help drain the battery or is it just from sitting for one week without running?  I have let my cycle sit for 2-3 weeks NOT running it NOT plugged into a battery tender and although NOT cold winter,  it cranks over just fine usually.

You could have put it on a 2 or 6 amp charger for 30 minutes tops and it probably would have fired the bike right up still able to ride some, just not as long.  Just do not do what I did in my early 20s not knowing better being as well an idiot and charging a cycle battery on a 10 amp car battery charger for 5-6 hours since it fries the cycle battery nearly every single time.

Thanks for the reminder to check that my tender is plugged in.  My family members have the habit of unplugging things in the garage and not plugging them back in (like the sump pump)

Well, if forgetting to plug your battery tender in is the worse thing you've done in a while, I think you'll be ok.  Wink  But you're right. It WAS a beautiful day to ride.

Your in good company.  Cheesy

Many years ago we had an early spring and I wanted to go for a ride. Pulled the bike off the tender, uncovered it , got all geared up and ready to go. Now where is the key? I always leave the key in it! Searched and searched and couldn't find it, had to roll the bike back in place and cover it back up. Totally frustrated.

Several days later I still couldn't find the dang key. A buddy stops by and I am lamenting the loss of the key and how I was going to have a locksmith come out. (At that time I only had one key, my spare was always kept with a riding partner and he was out of the country for a month.) My friend points to the bike and says, "You mean THAT key?" For some reason when putting it away I had put it in the lock of the center cover. DOH!!!  uglystupid2

Heck, thats one simple mistake or brain fart. Whichever you wish to use. I make a half dozen a day and then think it was a good day.
