I love watching these assembly videos.....

Here's one for the 767. This is the first of 150 that Fedex has on order. I think we're up to #44 so far, it came through Boston last week. It had 22 hours on it and still had that new airplane smell....lol.

We see this plane in the video once every few weeks, 101FE. It's looking a bit tired already....

My wife has been with Boeing since 2006, her first job out of college. She is on the defense side. Started with missile defense and moved to manned space. Then went to Philly for CH-47 and V-22 and now in Mesa for the Apache program and also supporting BCA Boeing Commercial Aviation. I have enjoyed moving around with her.

What does she do or would she have to kill me if she told me?

I've been to the 767 final assembly building in Everett.  It is awesome, a huge building.  They told us that the guys that worked the overhead cranes are limited to 4 hours at the controls because they start loosing depth perception because of the size of the building.

Another interesting place is the A350 wing fabrication plant in Spain.  A robot lays out the carbon fiber for a wing in a mold and then the whole thing, mold and all (about 100 feet long) are slid into a giant autoclave.  Once it comes out of the autoclave, it goes to a waterjet station and they waterjet all the openings for inspection panels in the lower wing box.  Once the wings are finished, they go to Toulouse to be joined to the center wing box/fuselage section and the whole thing comes together like a big model.

City in the Sky

This is a three part series that PBS just came out with on our aviation transportation system, it is a very, very well done series. ( 50 minutes each episode)

Tap on the episode to watch it for free.
