o.k., would not go buy one just so-so. guy had a better looking and more ergo friendly 1986 kawi vulcan 750 in high school with me and I had a 1984 honda magna 700cc. I would pick my honda magna anyday of the week over even the vulcan 750. I think his was even belt driven at the time vs. my shaft drive. Although OLD being 1984, I have my eye on a 1984 v30 magna 500cc for my kid age 16 asking 1100 bucks still for the darn thing with only i think 15K miles or so on it. Back in 1988 could pick one up for not much more than that used say 1500 tops being a 2 cylinder. I wanted that 1986 v65 magna 800 miles for 3800 at the time age 18 but did not have that dough laying around so got lucky enough with the 84 magna 700 for 1500 bucks served my needs just fine for over 10 years. If anyone sees this other kawi ex500 used let me know for under 1500 bucks: http://www.cycleworld.com/2012/01/27/kawasaki-ex500ninja-500r-best-used-bikescomparing that as well to the suzuki GS500 very similar size and engine used for my son. Just not so sure I like the 250cc dinky size frame to all those for under 2 grand will outgrow it in NO time being too small of frame even more so vs. the just barely adequate 250cc engines. At least I know these 500cc engine top speed is only 105 mph but the 250cc is hard pressed to reach even 70 mph and that can be an issue trying to pass people doing 45-50 mph if having to get around them in a big hurry if oncoming traffic.

Had the '79 Honda CB750K. It was nearly state of the art at the time, but the weight is tall, the suspension just adequate, the seat a bench. The carbs also take care. It was not good for all day. It had so much more than my '70 BSA Lightning, but I liked riding the Lightning better anyway. I traded it against an '86 80 inch Evo FXRD.

Cookie...this is not a V-Twin Vulcan. It is an inline 4. Specs on the bike are pretty good. No slouch like the V-twin. Also had a 1994 Gen 3 Magna.
Jess, may see a road trip occasionally but just thinking a light bang around bike with old school looks.

For me they were too much shaped like wheelbarrow handles. It wasn't a deal breaker. But it wasn't comfortable at all. They aren't bad bikes, but they aren't great bikes. But you know what they say about opinions.

I currently have a 78 KZ750 with 8k actual miles on it. Bought when I was 19 and parked it when I got married. I loved that bike. It sat indoors in a corner in my pole barn for last 38 years and I totally disassembled it and was going to restore it. Sand blasted the frame and all. All parts are in a storage bin and since I am moving I now want to sell it at a bargain if anyone is interested. Same color combo as one shown.

I had a 1984 Honda 700s and loved it. Hydraulic lifters, shaft drive, four way adjustable handlebars, so there you go no handlebar issue, gas gauge, gear indicator, six speed and a very nice inline four. I thought this bike was way ahead of its time. It would probably feel like a toy now.   I had one of those when I lived in Palm Springs. Same red and black. Terrific bike and if you read reviews from back in those days they were highly rated in every aspect. I had to sell it before moving to Ohio in 96. 3 years ago I went looking for another. Test road one and realized my body joints at close to 60 were not what they were in my 30s. I guess I had it at the right time in my life. Heck out there I rode it darn near every day. Very collectable bike though.

A buddy had one, at the time it was fast for a four stroke. The Kaw 650 was faster, or at least mine would chew up his 750 until my buddy went and got the Yamaha 1100 Midnight Special. Of course I then had to go out and get the Suzuki GS1100GL so I could continue racking up speed awards from the local bears. Like all bikes of the era, they were top heavy, had poor suspension, worse brakes and questionable electronics. The '72 Kawasaki 750 triple was a rocket with a top end that was unsafe for the stock bike. (Shake, rattle and front end drift over 140 mph with plenty more go and even young and bullet-proof, I knew better than try to find the top end.)

After many years riding behind me my Daughter said it was time to get on her own bike. I found a nice 1982 Yamaha 550 Maxim good shap, good new tires, got it for $400. Had the carbs cleaned, new battery, now its ready to go. All she needs to do is take the class and get her license, then she will ride with me before I turn her loose on her own. My x-wife will hate me even more but who cares.......... I will teach her to be as safe as possible, cause we all know riding a bike IS ALWAYS DANGEROUS. You just need to be aware of what you are doing and what the other people around you can do........
