It was short term.  That is it only lasted for a little over on hour.  We're fine.  There was no real damage very near us.  There were houses destroyed across town, closer to BonS, and a couple of miles away there was a hangar destroyed with several aircraft inside at Johnson County Executive Airport.  There were four touchdowns reported in the Kansas City area and numerous reports of straight line winds over 50 mph.  No fatalities were reported and to date there have been no known Valkyries damaged.

I stayed upstairs during the entire event.  Sometimes living in Kansas and growing up in Oklahoma can cause some of us to be more stupid than we should be.

Just because my wife and I stood on the porch to verify that 1. We did hear the sirens and 2. Personally check the sky; doesn't mean we were stupid.  Cheesy We just grew up in Oklahoma and aren't impressed with the forecasting abilities of the weather people in KC.  The only reported tornado sighting in our area was 1 1/2 west of us and the 65 mph wind gusts were a bigger issue.  We had a clear path to the basement, if necessary, but I was just finishing taking up dinner.  Priorities have to be considered.

Had one hell of a lighting show here. According to KY-3 had indications of one on the ground at Jct-14 and 63 just a tad north of West Plains. Sirens went off here a time or two. Lotsa wind and rain and I did in fact watch the Lighting Show. Not far to my hidey hole IF something happened-which nothing did happen. Some other communities around Missouri and Arkansas and a couple other states got Slammed. RIDE SAFE.

Good to hear all is well. I flew into Las Vegas Sunday afternoon and it was really windy and had a spirited landing. Flying home today I encountered the same wind in Chicago and the same spirited landing! Having 50 mph gusts here this afternoon in Northern IN.

Since the sirens can be/have been and will be late....it is best to RUN for shelter when you hear them--tornado victims usually do NOT have an open casket funeral.

You could always tell the native Kansan's from the foreign students in the International Dorm at KU - us natives would be as high as we could get at the windows trying to find the storms, while the others were down in the basement...
