Was out riding with 3 friends, all on Harley baggers (Electraglides.)

Did 3 roll ons;

first, both in third gear, about 3000 rpms for me, wasn't even close, my friend let off after about 5 seconds, he was waaaayyyyy behind me already.

second, 4th gear, again about 3000 rpms, pulled away from him convincingly,  just not as badly as 3rd gear

third roll on in 5th gear, from about 50 mph, here's where it was almost a dead heat. The one who got the jump usually won. We did let off about 90mph. If we would have kept at it I'm sure I would have pulled away on the very top end capability of the Valk over the Hog.

His bike is the 103CI motor, I think a 107 or 110 might take me in 5th initially.
The old girl, my 2001, performed beautifully, she made her Daddy proud!

Doubt you would have pulled away on top end as the top speed on a stock VALK is about 135.
You should have done that 5th gear roll on from 30 mph then you would have smoked him.
Also you should have been in 4th gear to his 5th gear as he had 6 speeds to your 5. Or him in 6th and you in 5th then you both would have been in top/high gear.

I understand the competition, being in the same gears.

The Valk's undisputed hot spot is in 3d at 3K, from there almost nothing can beat you.

But at 50, I would never be in 5th.  Either 3d or 4th.  I'll bet their bikes were all 6 speeds (if newer models).  If you were in 5th, they should have been in 6th.  (overdrive to overdrive)

Try a roll on in 5th at 15mph.  They would all stall (and maybe go over), and you'd limp away unharmed.   Grin

In any event.... way to represent!   cooldude

You guys are right, their bikes are 6 speeds.

Next time, I'll roll on with my girl in 5th and theirs in 6th. Top gear to top gear.

I think I know what the outcome is going to be, Honda 3 Harley 0!

You can also do 0-100-0. I did and it was all that my BP could handle. I accelerated so fast that I got dizzy an almost had to stop. I was 65 at the time and have normal low BP. It was a blast. My handle bar clock showed 19 seconds.

I think blue-stripers in good shape like that are about as good as
Valkyries get  cooldude ...

Aren't the "deluxe" models like that where the chromed passenger
footpeg mounts come from?

You don't have to race a HD to harass 'em with that thing, just park beside one.

Mine didn't come with them. As far as I can tell the differences are the polished and clearcoated wheels and rear pumpkin.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Yes, this is PTGB's old bike. It was a beauty when I got her and I made a few changes to her the last couple years. Windshield, grips, seat, seat rail, exhaust system, running lights, horn, different foot pegs and highway pegs, beach bar, and probably a few I forgot.

She's always run well since I got her, haven't needed to do a thing mechanically except turn her loose on Harleys!
