Lots of Vets refuse to talk about the war...
My grandfather is a WWII vet he had very little to say about the war. The few stories I've heard were through my mother or grandmother. All I really know is he drove a tank, hated 4th of July fireworks, and was injured and became nearly deaf from a grenade which is how he earned a purple heart.
When we were in elementary school I believe my brother tried to record an interview with him for a school project. It never happened. There was a don't ask because he won't tell policy. It's been 18 years without Papa, the memories are fading. I wish there were more stories, more pictures, more memories of the greatest man I ever met. Thank you to this young boy for recording this bit of history for not just all of us but for the families of these heroes. Thank you even more to the vets who have opened up and allowed this to happen.
My mother recently had Papa's medals put in a shadowbox frame
