Dang.
I-85 caught on fire.
And fell down.
Who would've thought that I-85 through Atlanta could get any worse?
It'll really suck trying to get around down there now...

I read I-85 at Piedmont. And I Remember what shutting down ANY one lane on ANY interstate near Atlanta did to traffic at ANY time of day!  2moros qualifyin-others call it rush hour-really SHOULD be in that tons of fun category-or not!  2 places there is NOT enough money on the planet to git me back to-Atlanta and N Y City. We are f'd I drive school buses for a couple of private schools to field trips and athletic events around the metro area. We are f'd. This week I've taken both schools downtown for field trips. We are f'd. I hope they cancel all future field trips until it's fixed because we are f'd. I saw the news report this morning but they did not indicate what started this fire.
Asphalt will burn if it gets hot enough and steal will melt but something was feeding this fire to have done what it did. My guess is a fuel truck or something was at the base of that fire.

One report said chunks of concrete was pelting firefighters as the rebar heated up and expanded. One of the reasons they brought the nozzle truck up from the airport.

The PVC pipe was used for fiber optic installation and should have been stored in a warehouse with a foam fire system because of the intense heat the PVC radiates when burning.

u would think these overpaid city/state govt officials/politicians would learn for other events in the country. Philadelphia yrs ago had a fire due to old tires stored under I-95, partial damage. then Delaware 1 or 2 yrs ago I-495 a driver noticed it and took the time report extra large separation of expansion joints, turns out somebody was storing tons and tons of dirt below the bridge and it was all pushing against the bridge supports. and there have been many other fire events under bridges/elevated hwys various locations over the yrs.
I guess they're too busy counting their stolen tax money going into their pockets.

There was a tanker accident/fire on I 75 under the 9 mile RD overpass that collapsed, they had that replaced in no time. Hopefully they can do the same here.
