Here's one of my buddy Bowser and his previous owner's child. They paid $1800 for Bowser as an 11 week old puppy. Then decided about the time he was a year old he was too big for their kids. I adopted him on the spot upon meeting him. He travels with me frequently. Had to take the back seat out of my truck to accommodate him but, it was worth it. Now, if I could only get him to drive once in a while. At his last visit to the vet, he weighed 174 but should get a little more filled out as he matures. This is Bowser and my son Matt last fall dancing in my back yard.

Did you have to get a custom saddle for that hor...I mean dog?
What breed is that?
And I'm liking your ride.....great color combo.
I showed the date pic to my wife. She just got a smug look and walked away.....I'm not sure I like that.

Bowser is a purebred English Mastiff. He's a sweetheart, thinks he's a lap puppy but my lap isn't big enough. Edited: I should mention that Bowser is looking for a girlfriend, it's just not working out with the Dachshund next door. Reference the Valkyrie, I looked long and hard for that one. I won't say it's rare but, there's not a lot of them out there. Thanks. Reference you showing that first date pic to your wife................. I'm thinking her smug look was in reference to the caption and knowing how true it may be. Then again, I've never met the lady. She married you so that says something good about her right?

Ron, cool post I can't help but feel sorry for the little guy that lost his dog. Looks like he was kinda fond of him. Ya know, I felt the same way when I arrived but then, I saw how Bowser was treated. That pic was taken before Bowser was banished to the back yard and the kids were not allowed to go into the back yard with him. Mom wouldn't let them go play with him because they always seemed to come back in crying that Bowser hurt them. Oh, he didn't bite, he was a typical teenaged puppy and was playing. I've seen his tail take a grown man to his knees and all he's doing is wagging it. He's a big and powerful animal. There's not a mean bone in that dog's body. The kid was five or six years old and he was the oldest. Bowser got absolutely no socialization for almost a year until I brought him home with me. Bowser didn't even have a shelter. Being honest, I thought it was going to be tough loading him up but, the kid didn't even want to say good bye so, I don't feel bad about it. Edited: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I picked him up on a Thursday, he was destined to be taken to the pound the next day. I couldn't let that happen. Bowser has a good loving home now and travels with me frequently. I took the back seat out of both of my trucks so he would have room to stand up, lay down and move around some. He loves to go for a ride. Yes, Bowser and I are travel buddies. If I start one of the diesels and he's not allowed out with me, the wife says he cries like a baby. He's become my buddy.

There is not much better than a loyal dog at your side. It used to piss me off all the time seeing people just leave their dog to be by itself in the back yard for an Alaskan winter.

Yeah, I see animals being mistreated once in a while and have upon an occasion reported it. Not only is Bowser a loyal dog, I take him with me a lot. Even into stores that will allow it. There are a bunch of them that do that. Obviously, none that have food but, the Ladies at Lowe's love him, he's a real chick magnet. There have been times that I won't take him just because I know it'll take me an extra thirty minutes just to get out of the store. I am not exaggerating this.

Used to live with a 200+lb great dane. Same lovely and loving disposition.
Same deadly tail. You simply had to turn sideways to meet him or he'd flatten your nuts for you.
Broke every lamp in the house. Broke his tail too.
His only Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde, was in the car. Once he was in the car, the First Infantry Division was not getting in that car with him. He turned into Cujo. Locking the car was more to protect the public, the car was as safe as Ft Knox.

OK, here's one of the wife and I on our first date. Joke : A little boy and girl are sitting in a bathtub together. The girl looks down and asks, "Can I touch it?" The boy replies, "No, you already broke yours off!"

Hey Ron. Love those pics of Bowser. Thanks so much for saving him. I do not know what the previous owners were thinking. Young, small, and fragile kids, so instead of getting a border collie, sheltie, or one of the other great smaller breeds, they get a horse that can cause destruction with just simple affectionate moves. Of course there kids were scared of it. And because of stupid people that dog would have had to sacrifice it's life most likely if not for you. Job well done. In a few short months I will be doing the same with a neighbors dog, when she gets married and moves to an apt. that will not allow dogs. The dog is confined to the outdoors chained up, because her parents basically do not like dogs. The dog, Jasmine, escapes from time to time and always comes here to play with my dog Finn. I let her stay in the house overnight and feed her well, sometimes even a bath, until we text them we have her. She is a really good dog, sort of a sheltie, with the most gorgeous eyes, and smart.

You're a good man Alpha. Honestly, I consider myself lucky that I got Bowser not that he got me. He's a pleasure to have around. Here's one of Bowser I took on what I knew would be a slow night at my part time job. His front paws are up on the counter on the cashier's side. A co-worker put his cap on Bowser's head and this is the result. He's a big ham..............

Bowser is a cool dog. I have a thing for giant dogs. My wife wants a great dane for our next one. She had one years ago. Our boys (3 and 6) do not know what to do with a small dog. They are always hanging all over my bloodhoud and labs. Even use them as pillows when they are watching cartoons.
