I'd check with the closest vet clinics and feral catch & release groups (the ear notching is a clue) to see if they had your buddy; then identify who brought him in and pay them a visit with "Louie"...32 oz. Louisville Slugger accompanying you to discuss the situation.

The ear-notch is what the feral catch and release people do... but
they don't have any business doing it to a non-feral cat...

With respect to your pet, the feral cat people can come over to my house anytime.

There are 3 or 4 cats spraying all my stuff in my yard.

I can't tell if their pets or feral, but I'm getting ready to go down to my local sporting goods store for a quality pellet gun with a scope.

I'm thinking, if their pets, they should be spayed and not marking ground by spraying my stuff.

I've got some strays that are Just-strays! I Know which cats and which dogs belong to my neighbors. Depending on their respective size determines whether the are warned with a B B or a pellet. Lets just say the git Only ONE B B warning. Far as yer personal puddy tat goes-Whoever mutilated yer cat needs to have themselves mutilated in a similar manner. Some folks take way too much fer granted! Course I'd be willin to bet No one will take responsibility for mutilating your cat. Hope you do find who took Way too much upon themselves. RIDE SAFE

All tho I don't condone what was done an they should be reported if you find out who did it all cats and dogs that are not to be bred should be spayed or neutered if let outside. It's for there safety and keeps the strays under control. Hope your kitty will be ok. I know how you feel since I've been married over 50 years we have been pet free for only 6 months.

I can understand and sympathize with you being upset and they really didn't have a right to do it. But if your cat is outside while your gone or out most of the time and maybe making kitties then it would help the feral cat problem, since your cat not being fixed is adding to the problem. I have always fixed my cats and at my shop I have seen the problem of cats not being fixed to the tune of 12 to 13 cats that used to be around. While upsetting to see someone doing this, I dont know why you would not fix your cat. The good side is it was free and the cat was obviously taken care of. It could have been the city that got the cat and they would have put the cat down. I would also think about chipping the cat because most vets do check and it would have eliminated the problem.

I agree, I've had cats and dogs all my life, 1 dog 2 cats right now, all my cats have been inside cats and all have been fixed. If you are going to take up with a pet, make it your pet, not the whole neighborhoods pet. If you do make it the whole neighborhoods pet don't bitch when the neighborhood starts making decisions about its pet.
Keep your pets on your own property and get them spayed/neutered.

Many years ago, we had a Siamese cat. We let it out to roam every day until the neighbor complained that our cat was walking on his car and could scratch it. The neighbor was right, I learned from that.

Except for feral farm cats,  IMO, city cats should be kept indoors or on a leash outdoors.

Outdoors, cats are fair game for anyone from a pissed off neighbor to a person who would mutilate or kill a cat.  To me, there is NO excuse to have a pet cat and let it wander around outside. Cats, unlike dogs, are predators and they can kill game animals (pisses off game wardens) climbers, (pisses off neighbors, see above) and defecate(alright, crap) in soft landscaping ground,  then cover it up, so it surprises anyone who works in the garden.  Inadvertently digging up cat crap by hand is NOT a pleasant experience, don't ask me how I know.

Cats are neat but that's what they do.

Bill Im sorry this is not going to sound good but I think your wrong and irresponsible. To let your cat impregnate a feral cat and then they multiply in the area is everyone's problem. They do get sick, they do fight and that means your cat is potentially at risk from disease and fighting, ticks, fleas and you would hate to have your cat jump on your bed and wind up with fleas in your bed. I have treated many of my cats for abscess and such from this exact scenario. Its like draining coolant on the ground and some animal comes along and drinks it and dies, well as long as it wasn't my cat, its ok. Not to mention when they are not fixed they tend to spray their territory and sometimes house and it smells very bad and never really seems to go away. They are more territorial since they have a mating instinct also which leads to fights. This is reasoning you may not have thought about.

I guess you are assuming my area is over run with feral cats which is certainly not the case..
There are only a few houses with a few pets and everyones dogs and cats alike pretty much roam free on the block the neighbors dog will lay in the street for hours some days ,and im not rushing out there to cut his balls off..

Just me.......

Sounds like a count the blessings moment....... maybe a learning experience. Cat is alive and home ?

How problems are solved around here, spines of the cactus, Stinger of the scorpion, fangs of the rattlesnake, claws of the mountain lion. Results...... SKULLS of the dead things. Not me just the way it is.

So aside from someone fixing the cat WITHOUT a skull the problem is ?...........?
