She was a singing star for 4 decades and a good looking class lady with a sense of humor too   I just love the clarity of her voice and remember watching her show as a young kid on the black and white tv with my folks

1st one is the Hollywood Canteen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrV55EvjCaA

Think RJ said he was there in the 50's as he was a chp in the area after he was discharged after Korea

These next 2 are with her sometimes boyfriend Sinatra

I just love cruising old youtube stuff  you can find any old music from times long ago

Dinah was from Tennessee by the way. She died in 1994. Most probably just remember she was with Burt Reynolds in the 70's and considered her a cougar, which is a shame. Asked who he missed more than anyone Reynolds said Dinah no quesition about it

I remember the Dinah Shore show and the Chevy commercials.  Her and Ginger Rogers where two of my Fathers favorites.

Just watched a couple of the videos, oh my....what memories. The first one with all the current Hollywood celebs taking part, I recall the names and faces of most. The names and voices back then came to me over the big old floor model radio. If you had a good antenna you could pick up what was referred to as "clear channel" stations from hundreds of miles away running with thousands of watts broadcast power. Those stations are the ones that kept us informed of what was happening on the war fronts, and would broadcast all the shows being thrown for the GI's both ZI and overseas. I remember my mom made me take down a pin-up of Rita Hayworth, told me it was disgusting....she was in a one piece bathing suit and high heels. I took it down along with a couple others I had hidden behind it that she didn't see, rolled them up and stuck them up into the bed springs to I could take them out when I wanted some "inspiration."  I miss the 40's and the live big band music with live singers. Yeah, I remember Dinah and many others of that era. Seems like the old times really were good.....but long gone.  Sad

Her show was something my parents always watched.   Classy lady with an angel's voice as I remember.

I well remember her. "See the USA in your Chevrolet" with a mmph at the end.

The other one I remember is Doris day and SHE's still around.  "It's Magic" by Doris Day is one of her great songs.

Of course that brings up , to me, Glen Miller's band.  Tuxedo Junction, Sunrise Serenade, American Patrol, and others.  In fact, I've been listening to Glen Miller on CD in the car.

All of the older bands, the singers like Teresa Brewer, you could clearly hear the lyrics and they didn't need fireworks, special effects, and superloud bass to be popular.   Thanks Oss, I'll get off my soapbox now. Smiley Smiley

There's still a Glen Miller orchestra on the road... we saw them locally a few years ago. I got a recording of the
original band while at the show, and it is on my iPod in the car. I only turn on the music sometimes, and it
is set to "random play", so Glen Miller might come out between Pink Floyd and JJ Cale  Smiley ... a Glen Miller song
came out a couple of days ago. That's the stuff the GIs listened to in WWII...

I have Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive on there, he does Tuxedo Junction... and several Louis Jordan songs, like Five Guys
Named Moe... every song on the Joe Jackson album is ON FIRE, I recommend it...

I remember she had her own golf tournament, usually March or April in Palm Desert, CA.  I think it was a major one for the woman, and I think it was also sponsored by Nabisco.  It always brought more woman into town and that can hardly be bad.

Wow, what a different time, military honored, no cursing, jokes and caring. I dont go quite that far back but remember some of the shows. I must say that I miss those times that although not innocent were respectful and caring.
