I couldn't believe what I was hearing considering I had never heard anything on the news. A guy that works for me calls me in the AM and says he wont be in to work today. He was totally broken up and said he was in pain from sleeping in the Atlanta airport. I was in shock since I had not heard anything about it. He even missed his mothers funeral that he was traveling for.

Was it really as bad as this article says? any of you guys close by and how come we never heard any news on this?

I'm 100 miles up the road from Atlanta. We had sucky weather last week, a couple
of fronts blew in from the west. Wind, lightning, tornadoes. The storms killed people
and tore down houses in Louisiana and Mississippi, so that's what was
on the news, but they still sucked plenty good enough to screw up the
Delta hub by the time they got to Atlanta... it probably didn't help the
chaos when I-85 collapsed at Atlanta too.

Thanks I didnt think about that either, I asked him why he didn't call me, three days in an airport. Sounded like a third world country.

probably because he missed his mothers funeral and stuck in an airport. So you were probably last on his list of give a craps? Just saying.

I hear ya, but the truth is I am probably one of the only ones that would actually help including his family, as I have in the past. I don't know but I think this really shook him up, I mean really shook up. I, in a million years would never have expected a phone call like this it actually shocked me and I dont shock that easily. Life is definitely strange sometimes.

My wife was coming back to Atlanta from Naples Fl, her Friday AM flight was canx, but she did get on a later flight Friday afternoon.  Some of her colleagues didn't get back until Sat and Sun.  It was that storm that came thru Thursday and moved up the eastern seaboard, jammed up many flights and equipment was grounded that was needed for flights where the sun was shining.

It was that storm that came thru Thursday

Thursday night was the night we got the simultaneous thunderclap/lightning-flash
that fried our Sony DVD/streaming device. I had come back upstairs from my
nightly trip downstairs when it happened, so I was awake. It was funny the
way Carolyn sat bolt-upright from a dead sleep... I walked around some looking
around for the house being on fire and then went back to sleep. What a week
of wind and rain...

Got a Roku streaming stick to replace the old Sony device, it works great...

Now that you mention I did hear a snippet about that. It was towards the end of the news half hour-a tiny filler before the sign off. It was the same storm that had kept the Willow Springs warning sirens going on and off til 0330. I do watch the national news every night right after Jeopardy. But the little filler snippet is all I remember bout those flight cancelations at Atlanta. Kinda sorta like it weren't news worthy or some such!  uglystupid2 Yep-takin a shot-maybe the lame stream media still smartin cuz their candidate didn't git elected? And B T W-sorry your friend missed his Mothers Funeral. RIDE SAFE.

My close friend and co-worker just got back from the annual golf trip down south. Him and 7 other guys were set to fly out of Akron, Ohio @ 8am Friday 4/7/17. Their stop over was Atlanta on their way to Savannah. He got a call Thurs. 4/6/17 @ 23:00 telling him their flight was cancelled, due to issues in Atlanta!
Now they are having trouble getting refunds. Some have gotten half some nothing at all.
