 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

    Hello Fellow Hillbilly Riders,

I have not had an opportunity to get on the web for a while as I had surgery a few weeks ago and I am trying to heal up for the ride.  I have made a few trips on my bike to make sure that I am well enough to tailgate it.  I am doing very well and am really looking forward to all our friends and newcomers to my neck of the Hillbilly Nation.  Everyone can indeed look forward to the very best ride of a lifetime as Reb, Smokin' Joe, and the others have put a tremendous effort to make it what you will enjoy.  I have made a few inquiries and have some great news to share.  I contacted the Chief of Police to find out if it would be possible to have them-the police department- aid us on getting onto Route 23 northbound from the hotel.  He was so excited to help that he offered to not only help get us across  the highway, BUT was willing to get us thru the first red light with police escort and  to help us get on U.S. 119 intersection turn off toward Meta.  This is the same intersection turning right that will take our group on the four lane for a distance of 6 miles for our next right hand turn on State Highway 194 - two lane- taking us toward Phelps and Matewan.

I will do my best to be at the hotel on Friday night to personally welcome each and everyone of you.  Some have questioned about food,  gas stations, adult beverages, things to see and do while  here.  There are numerous food places just north of Pikeville along U.S. 23, several within 4 miles of
ground zero that will be available.  There are many gas stations along this same highway and one is next door to the hotel.  There is several beverage stores in town as the county is dry B U T the city is wet and many different kinds of labels to be found.  As for entertainment choices, I WILL BE THERE !!!!  What more do you need except friends like you.

Be seeing all of you come next Friday.  Be prepared for lots of fun, laughter, fabulous scenery, total friendliness, great hospitality, and most of all---THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFETIME  !!!!!

Reb can chime in on this and make the call however in my opinion a police escort is not needed or wanted . Main reason is folks will not be ready ( always a few ) never fails and no reason to be calling attention to us with the police department... That's my two cents however as stated its Reb's call.

I'm with Joe on this.
Reb n them surely got this handled.
No sense drawing unwanted attention  police
Some of the attendees are probably allowed to cross the street all on their own...

My main concern on any ride is the safety of all who attend. We have to make an immediate left hand out of the motel on a 4 lane highway that was very busy during the scouting ride. I asked Gabby if he could use his connections to get us a police escort to block traffic and get us through the stop lights of Pikeville.

With 40+ bikes behind me,  the last thing I want is to see is a rider get killed or injured. With as many folks signed up, I believe the Pikeville community is excited that we are bringing some business to there town. I don't believe on any occasion I've seen VRCC members drink and ride. I have no problem with a police escort and thank you Gabby for setting that up for us. I understand folks concern with bringing unwanted attention to our group but ask that they understand where I'm coming from with group safety.

I can appreciate Rebs point however after " The Ride From Hell"  ( The Meet In The Middle 2016 ) "  I'm at a point If you can't cross the street without a police escort I really have no desire to ride with you.  Just calling it as I see it . My whole life when the law is involved its been a bad thing...  I'll say again I see Rebs point I just see mine so much clearer. This is going to be a awesome ride all we need is dry roads.

Hello Fellow Valk Riders,

I am so sorry that I ruffled some feathers by asking the police department to help us get across the highway,  B U T the road in front of the hotel has an overall average of 14 to 20 very bad accidents  EVERY week in this immediate area.  I know that some have a bad feeling of police and troopers in general,  B U T     I, meaning me, myself and no one else asked the chief for help as I felt that with over 40 riders coming across U.S. 23 to make a left turn heading north would be to our SAFETY advantage to have them.  The chief asked if they could lead the 5 miles  to help make the right turn at the intersection of U.S. 119 going toward Phelps-Matewan area. I felt it would at least give us the advantage of severe heavy traffic on the highway to keep us all together in line at least this far. In this manner we could go thru two lights--together- as one group and no one would get stranded or left behind the group.  There is one light as we are crossing over the hill on U.S. 119 and the rest of the way are no lights whatsoever.  I just do not want anyone not familiar with our Hillbilly ways to have trouble of any kind.

I hope that this way of me doing the protection of the group does not reflect our mannerism of eastern Kentucky.  I just do not want anyone hurt on any ride that I chose to be with. I am very proud to have you choose to come to Pikeville and it is only right to go out of my way to serve and to protect our visitors.  You are that important to me.

Reb,
Damn, Joe has turned into a real hard ass after the ride from hell. He just needs to burn one and chill out a little. LOL. He will be fine.
I'll see you boys in Pikeville.

He has his reasons as do others.

Boys; piss and mown at each other when they have disagreements

Men who disagree can talk and still find resolve, as Joe and I do.

He's my best friend and I love the guy,  cooldude

Gabby

I agree with both Reb and Gabby, the 5 oh stopping traffic and escorting everyone up 23 a few miles will accomplish 2 things, get everyone out in one group and give those in the back a chance to catch up to the leaders before we get off on the back roads.  I've been on a lot of rides where it wasn't a race until the ride started, then it was a race.  Everyone take care of your warrants before this ride and you should be good.

(Hint hint jig)

Reb can chime in on this and make the call however in my opinion a police escort is not needed or wanted . Main reason is folks will not be ready ( always a few ) never fails and no reason to be calling attention to us with the police department... That's my two cents however as stated its Reb's call.

Joe, I agree with you about dealings with the police.

In my experience it usually doesn't go too well.

My tendency to be somewhat of a "Coon Ass" at times may have something to do with that.

However, I think that Reb is doing the right thing here.

Let's let the "Boy Scouts" help us across the street if for no other reason than it makes them feel good.

When I booked the room the lady told me that they usually have a heavy police presence in the area around the hotel.

She even warned me about having adult beverages out in public view ( beer in a koozie or liquor in a Dixie cup is cool).

So if the police have a positive interaction with us prior to Saturday night's blowout that may turn out to be a good thing.
