but that's kind of a good thing!
10 days out of hip replacement surgery and I can walk without the cane. (PT girl says use it!).
It was and still is hard work getting back to "normal", as some here can attest! And I thank all who shared their hip stories here, made it so I knew what to expect.

I brought the PT out to the garage to show her my motivation. She stood there mouth agape and mumbled something about OMG that's huge! (insert dirty joke here)...she loved the Valk. She used to ride her own, has a respectable arsenal, and drives a pick up truck with a Trump sticker on it...think I hit the PT jackpot with this one!!

Anyhow, these nice days are killin me, bikes going by all day  ggrrrrr   tickedoff
Go see the hip Dr. next Wednesday, maybe get an idea when it's riding time again....
thanks for the ear, and ride safe!

Does this PT make house calls to Ohio?  I know I can find something wrong.

tell me about it. I had neck surgery 5 weeks ago and am dying to get on a bike. I see the neurosurgeon next week and am gonna ask about putting a helmet on to go for a ride. Neck is still very tender but all these bikes on the road is making me nuts

Craig, my dr. told me my hip would let me know when I could do various things. He suggested waiting 2-3 wks. for the bike so prior to that I would daily sit on it and test the leg strength. I would gently rock it back/forth and didn't seem to have any trouble. I had a chance to give the hip a good test about 2 wks. after the operation. My wife fell at home(has advanced Parkinsons), hit the bed frame with her right should on the way down, broke in two places plus major dislocation. For four days I visited her in the hospital before she was transferred to a skilled nursing facility. Both the hospital room and her room at the nursing home were a long walk from the front door so I gave it a good test. All seems to have worked out OK, I brought her home 2/27 now that I can care for her here without trouble. I'm five months out from my procedure, still get some twinges from time to time but slowly going away. My PT was also a cute little gal but insistent on doing it right. I finally asked her one day if she'd leave her whip in the car. After a good laugh, she turned on the tiger again. It paid off.  cooldude

After my back surgery, I told my PT to not treat me as an IBM card ."Do Not Fold, Spindle, or Mutilate"

This might be lost on some  "IBM card?????"

PT is good. Smiley

I had knee replacement surgery in Dec on the left side. The PT had me walking the next day and while the left knee is still not 100% (the Dr said 80% at 6 months is normal), it is soooo much better than before the surgery. After the first month of PT, I had to remind the PT that I only had one good knee, the left one which was replaced. The right is still bone on bone and could not handle some of the stress the PT was putting in the replaced left knee. If one stays on the regime the PT prescribe, recovery is much faster.

After my hip replacement the Dr told me there was only one restriction after the day of surgery.  I couldn't do a full-weight pivot on the left hip for 30 days......and that's exactly how I mount the valk.  After about a week or 10 days I took my first ride but I mounted from the right side and did so for the first month or so, but it was very unnatural for me.  About 6 weeks out I went back to the left side mount but with a slow, delicate technique, at least for a new months anyhow.  The thought of twisting that new prosthetic in my leg bone didn't sound like fun.

I remember a few years ago when TBird had his hip replaced. Two weeks later he rode a thousand miles to the GOTF. I couldn't believe it. Terry is a tough bird. Heal quick.  cooldude

Hey NewValker...I am getting into uncharted waters. Broke my collarbone yesterday. Other than hoping the KTM is totaled, I am wondering what the road back to riding will be...positive my first bike ride will be on the Valk bobber.
Good luck

RDKLL,  Painful...lol  and like the wise ones here told me, listen and do what the PT says!
Good luck, at least the bobber isn't 900lbs.!
And glad you're here to tell about the a-hole that hit you.

And now the cane is put away, hopefully for good! Went to surgeon Wednesday, and he was real happy with my healing, x-rays showed all good. Of course I asked him how long for softball & the bike? He said 6 weeks from today you can ride and play ball. He did have a smirk on his face like maybe I couldn't wait that long... Wink
Got released from therapy today, she said I'm doing awesome and don't ride too soon... Grin
So I tuned up the lawn tractor today, changed the oil, checked belts, charged battery, hey, no one said I couldn't ride that...

Ride Safe All,
