I doubt he was the one that closed the beaches. I Have a feeling the politicians couldn't come to an agreement on a budget. And, wasn't the Gov out in front of the Governors mansion ?

It may have been a bit inappropriate though.

that is the Governor's Beach House paid by the tax payers. Who was the first gov and his buddies who got that approved? it was done much before Christie was ever elected. Governor's Mansion is a given. The gov beach house is a tax payer ripoff.

I like Christie. "F you, I didn't shut down the government. My house is
on this beach, it is the one I'm going to walk to". That the media is
making such a big deal of this, and that everyone is eating it up,
just shows how broken things really are (that's not Christie's
fault either).

All politicians are hated by at least half the people. They and their
families aren't safe unless they have some kind of protected environment
to stay in. Most of the Jersey shore is packed with people having fun, just
a few miles of State Park is (was) shutdown. If Christie and his family
were at the open beaches that are filled with people who hate him,
they'd all be tarred and feathered by now.

In the grand scheme of things, it's not that big of a deal. But, if you were one of the families that had all your crap packed up for a day at the beach. And then you get there and find the beach is closed do to a govt. shutdown. When you got back home and saw him down on said beach, you'd probably be pissed too. I like Christie alright, but he does seem to come across as a politician who only cares about himself on the way out. (And when did we start providing beach castles for governors ?)

There's a little strip of State Park beach at Myrtle Beach. If I got there
and found it was closed (for whatever reason) and turned around and
went back home I'd... be a moron. Open beaches stretch for miles in either
direction.

Granted, I'd rather be at a beach with the woods behind me, instead of
at the beach with hotels and merry-go-rounds behind me...

Trump is the favorite target to be slimed by the radical, intolerant, hateful left.  Christie is probably a great second choice.  Surely, he or a staffer is aware of the optics of everything he does and this should have been a red flag.  Or maybe he said "piss on 'em, let the haters hate.

Being King of the RINO's I think Christie deservedly gets as much scorn from the right as he does from the left...  Sad

Using the beach was probably lawful (but poor judgment), but I'd like to know on what authority they required lawful neighbor owners to vacate their own properties on pain of arrest.

I wonder where the property owner's lot actually ends? At the water line?, on the beach somewhere? at the high water make? further back from the beach?
