Woke up this morning with a pain in my right flank. I knew very well what it was. Called my urologist in Holland and they got me right in. Xrays and it turns out to be an 8+MM kidney stone. This isn't my first, in fact its #8. Surgery set for next Wednesday unless it breaks up. None in the past have. They've had to go get them as well. This sucks!

Having just suffered the stone pain I feel for you. Mine too was 8mm.

Luckily mine did pass.

I drank enough water to float a whale and enough lime and lemon juice to make a barrel of margaritas along with enough cherry concentrate to fill a sink.

Did they give you some muscled relaxants to help the flow of liquid and the stone? I took https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamsulosin

Thanks guys...I'm thinkin the zipper would be a good idea! Flomax and Norco. I won't  take the Norco unless absolutely necessary.  I drink a ton of water anyway everyday. It's this Sarcoidosis that I have that produces calcium  that is the culprit.  My band has a 3 hour gig at a summer fest on saturday evening, hope I can stand that long?    Undecided

I'm surprised to hear the recommendations from this board.  People hear usually recommend Berryman B12 or Techron when a solid deposit is causing flow issues.

Drink LOTSA water and vinegar. At 72 I've avoided THIS particular problem. My youngest Daughter had stones when she was 16. TOO much pepsi Not ENOUGH water. RIDE SAFE.

Last stone I had wouldn't pass either. After all was said and done, my penis machinist put me on Allopurinol. I take 100mg twice a day, haven't had a stone in over 8 years.

I drink no soda. I gave up ice cream a long time ago. No milk to speak of. I even quit taking Rolaids on a very rare ocassion I get heart burn. I take Gaviscon for that, no calcium. I get a ton of exercise and drink 5-7 bottles of water a day. Very little if any salt and limited red meat and plenty of veggies. What a boring diet that obviously isn't working.  Undecided

Sounds to me that you should go to just enjoying all those delicious foods you gave up. At least you'll get some joy out of your pain.  Grin

A friend of mine used to battle these stones. He started taking an over the counter product called Stone Free and swears by it. Hasn't had a stone in years.  cooldude

That's what my urologist told me. I'm a meat and taters guy to so it's difficult.  The way it seems now I might as well go out in the front yard and graze and eat tree bark.

Well NOT to rub salt into an open wound BUT I no longer keep pepsi in the house but when I go to Taco Bell pepsi is what I drink. Got rid of my ice cream and hersheys chocolate syrpul and my cookies and such like and my Moon Pies-big SIGH here. Burgers steaks bacon sausage buttered toast French fries-guessin here but the term I use now is moderation. Those aforementioned meats are still in my diet. Years wise I've already outlived Dad BUT while I enjoy an occasional chefs salad I do NOT wanna live on them. Doctor called me awhile back and asked if I was using an O T C cholesterol drug. No sez I-But I eat a Lot of onions and garlic. Using more olive oil and crushed red peppers these days too. And while it may be 2% I still drink milk. Dietician wants me on 1% or skim and I mentioned in a nice way-NEVER gonna happen-2% low as I go.  2funny RIDE SAFE.

OK so it's not uric acid crystals helping to form your kidney stones.

All they tell me is its calcium.  And, that comes from my specialist.  They are digging into this Tuesday,  the day before I have surgery.

Stone is GONE.  Doc fetched it last Wednesday.  Stent removed this morning. Still sore but not the kind of pain that goes with a stone, this is tolerable.  It was roughly 9mm, a touch bigger than he thought. He said it was going nowhere.  I'm just glad it's done! There are only a couple of people I'd wish one of those on!   Evil

Had one when I was in the USN...but before they knew it was a stone, they admitted me to the hospital on board the USS John F Kennedy and then after some tests they said that one kidney quit wouking and the other was twice its normal size...flew me off to Panama Army hospital and they ended up going in and getting it. That was the only time...and there are only a few that I would wish that pain on.
Glad you are better
