I suffered through two of the books. I don't get the attraction to the show even if the show left the books behind some time ago. Dark story lines don't disturb me (read Joe Abercrombie for dark) as long as there really is a plot. After two books I never found a plot in the Game of Thrones series so I gave up on reading George R.R. Martin books and never even attempted the HBO show. There were a number of "Saw" movies and they had about the same plot line as the books IMHO.

Mr Martin and HBO are apparently laughing all the way to the bank since I seem to be in the minority on my opinion of their production. Oh well, I can live with that.
