Okay, walked away from it for a bit and came back at it fresh... How's this Serkle look?

Interesting... the large city near the center of your Serkle happens to be the location of our connecting airport to either location.  Both locations are within 250 driving miles of that airport.

250 mile driving radius from the Charlotte, NC airport:

I'm hoping for the suburbs of Atlanta... We could have a "Do a loop around Atlanta in rush hour traffic and survive" contest! Wink

As long as you don't take the shortcut from Myrtle Beach to Wilmington.  Wink  A lot of possibilities within that last image so hard to say. Could be Knoxville, up around Roanoke, Raleigh-Durham, quite a list actually.

Yep, there are quite a few possibilities in the Serkle.  Hopefully, the general area will allow for some early planning.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't in one of the cities close to or within the national forests within that circle.    IMHO, any location outside of the national forest arena won't offer the roads and terrain most members here like to ride.    That greatly narrows the options.   I could be wrong, doesn't really matter, the entire circle is with in a day's ride or drive.   That is very important to most folks who can and will attend.

While last year's INZANE was fun, the distances involved definitely hurt attendance.

This years InZane was only 500 miles (7 hours) from my house. I liked it!
Next years will be about 24 hours and 1500 miles. Can't wait to go no matter where it is!  cooldude

........ a day's ride or drive.   That is very important to most folks who can and will attend.

I've made the last 3, after not attending any of the previous Inzanes. Each time I've had a blast, meeting and getting to know more members being a big part of the draw...as well as enjoying all parts of what is a very well planned event.  For me however, a significant part of the experience  has been the extended ride to and from InZane....as it always is when I go on a ride with a particular destination in mind. I understand that not all are able to ride multiple days to and from for legitimate reasons and that more attendees adds to the experience, I'm just saying that to many a large part of the appeal to events such as this is the commitment it takes and the experiences gained from riding distances to and from.
Whatever the exact location turns out to be, I'm hoping it's the one that goes along with the earlier date so it doesn't conflict with our local annual Valhalla Rally and I can make it 4 in a row.

Understood, I also attended the Billings INZANE but, I believe the attendance numbers support my statement.

I believe you're taking my comment as saying that INZANE must be within a day's ride, that was not the intent of my statement.   But, the fact is, the greater the distance from the greater Valkyrie population, the fewer who will have the time and resources to attend.

I understood the intent of your comments, and was not meaning to contradict what you were saying... I agree with respect to greater numbers being able to attend when it's closer to the main "Valkyrie population". Morgantown has been my favorite so far... due to the number of attendees for sure, but for me also, the opportunity to ride across the continent and experience all that a ride like that entails. Just adding my personal preferences to your comments, not disagreeing with them. Hope to see you next June cooldude cooldude

I would like to make it 4 in a row, and already have a riding partner from the PNW .... hoping the location chosen is the one with the earlier June date, which would make that distance doable with respect to the timing. Looking forward to learning what the final decision is.

As Willow said, we're working on the final contract for one of the sites.  Unless something blows up the deal, the more Northerly to the two sites will be hosting InZane XVIII.

The dates will most likely be June 10-15.

If you leave on Friday, the 15th, you would have plenty of time to make it... even if you took your time with nice easy days of less than 350 miles.

Oops... some might take that as another hint.   Wink

mmm...if that means the return trip home to make our annual "local" event later in the month and if I have to be back in BC for June 22 after  5 great days at the mysterious destination, heading for home on the 15th .... riding  "less than 350 miles per day" (what would I do in afternoons?) x 7 days = a max of only 2700 miles from my neck of the woods....that must put the location in the Northwestern part of the Serkle if my early AM calculations aren't skewed. I don't have any first hand knowledge of any actual cities or towns in that region so wouldn't know of appropriate candidates... anyone else?

I was actually counting you doing a short ride in on the morning of the 22nd, giving you 8 riding days.  If you wanted to get in on the 21st, you would still have easy days of less than 400 miles.

BTW, your early AM calculations are a bit skewed, 350 x 7 =  2450.   Smiley

I love this thread and the 'secret info' being tossed about, and I'm not even going to go next year. The dates fall right in the middle of my trip to Alaska. My third one, but the second was in 1985.

I love this thread and the 'secret info' being tossed about, and I'm not even going to go next year. The dates fall right in the middle of my trip to Alaska. My third one, but the second was in 1985.
Where all you going ?

Last time I was there the Dalton to Deadhorse wasn't open to the public, so that is on the list if the weather slightly cooperates. The Cassier is how I went before both times. It has been changed greatly, so I want to do that again. The southern roads (Homer, Valdez) will probably be taken. Denali Highway if it is in fair shape then. Come back via Top of the World and Dawson. I play it pretty loose.

Sorry for the hijack, Connie!

I ride a motorcycle because nothing transports me as quickly from where I am to who I am.
