After DDT's recent alternator adventure, I noticed that my contact info and I'm sure several others, is inaccurate.  How do we update it?   This is a resource that could very well save a life, our lose one if the info isn't accurate.  Any info on updating is welcome.

IMHO, at this point the best thing would probably be to wipe it and start over fresh. I'd suspect the number of entries that are still accurate, still involved and willing to help is minimal at best.

Also, in an age of constant contact like we have, is such a thing still needed? Even if a rider doesn't have a smart phone, it only takes a phone call to one who does to get the word out via this forum, Facebook, etc?

(Not saying it's not, just putting it out for discussion and thought.)

My reason exactly for making the post, to start the discussion.  The main reason I turned to VORTEX to try and help Bruce, is that we didn't know who was in the area, perhaps there is a better way to track member locations, and I agree the board and Facebook are good places to start when help is needed.

Be nice if we had some sort of US map and if you are willing to help, you could pin your location to it. Where any one could pull it up and see who is close by.

I think your idea is admirable.  Yet Serk is right.  The Vortex list needs constant maintenance.  While if someone has a smartphone, a quick post here should get the attention of someone in the area who can advise who else is in the area.  However - not as fast as the Vortex list and with depending on luck of a local seeing it in short time.

This calls for a new phone ap!

Maybe the vortex list could include a date field indicating how fresh the current record is.

Any programmers with current experience in phone aps, who could whip something up that is refreshed by the member list here?  Maybe tied into other Valk groups ( I know, that's another can of worms. ) Facebook has a ton of users in the 2 big Valk groups but do they support anything similar in the programming world?

I have been out of the IT world for a long time, so my expertise is too old.  And it wasn't in these fields.

there is a fb page called N.A.B.R.  North American Biker Rescue. everyone posts their location on a map. if there is need for assistance moderators check the map and tag you in a facebook post if in your area.

not sure if we could do something similar where everyone is pinned on a map so we can see who is nearby to help

That would be a good solution.  I for one have no problem limiting it to Valkyrie riders, hell, I'd help any rider if I could.  Maybe something to look into.
