Of course, keeping the big girl. Thinking the Yamaha 1700 VMAX. Anyone got opinion or experience with these.

I owned one for about 5 years. The performance was breathtaking to me, it handled well, stopped great (ABS) .

I sold it as it was not comfortable for me, I find the older I get, comfort is winning out over how fast a bike is that I ride. The factory bags were small, my Frog Toggs filled one bag ;leaving you little space for anything more then your wallet and firearm in the other one.

Mine had a custom map, aftermarket carbon fiber mufflers and scoops. It was pretty, in my opinion.Probably was putting out 200 HP.

It was a fun bike, the guys on the forum had Jay Gleason come out of retirement and lay down a 9 second 1/4 mile! on one of their bikes.

I'm glad I experienced it but kept my 2 Valkyries for now.

I've always drooled over the VMAX since they started making 'em.  The 1700 is a wicked beast.

My neighbor across from me has one with about 5K miles on it. It is sitting on two flats, lots of dust and hasn't been ridden in probably 15 years. He has had hip replacement and is very overweight and recently retired. I have not been able to get it, but working on it.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Thing is a monster, & ‘Pee Wee’ was jus' the legend to wring it out!
(R.I.P. Bro)
Check out how upright it sits & watch him pull the front wheel on the second pass.
Breaks back end loose every launch.

Here he is with an even hotter pass.

and jus' for giggles...(not Pee Wee Gleason!)

Here's one with factory bags (yeah, they are real small) aux tank & DIY highway pegs.
(I don't think they make any for it, no good place to mount them.)

Buzz kill Britman here.

Wouldn't a smaller, lighter bike be better for city riding.

More nimble???

I know when I was a bike messenger in London yeeeeeaaaaarrrrrrs ago the best bike I used for the job was a Gpz550. Sit up bars. Comfortable seat. Plenty of get up and go etc etc.

That'd be a first gen 1198cc 70° V4. Outstanding bike in it's own right & virtually unchanged from '85 to '07 so parts are plentiful, unlike the Honda Magna V65...(Hope you score that, really is a great bike!)
but the new second gen (released 6/08) 1679cc 65° V4 injected with Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) & direct ignition coils (from their YZF-R1), fully adjustable suspension, anti-lock brakes, slipper clutch, weighing in at 684 lbs, producing 123 ft-lb of torque at 6500 rpm & 197 bhp at 9k
is a completely different animal Cool

Compared to the Valk, it is lighter. LOL. And I'm getting it for city riding.

Yeah, but that bike's a wimp Bro 2funny ('specially for someone my size, lol).
58 ft-lb torque at 7850 rpm, seriously?

If you're gonna go dual sport, this has got it all...
549 lb "wet" weight with 7.93 gallon fuel tank
(almost 50 lbs of fuel gettin' a reputed 40 mpg, 300+ mile range)
160 horsepower at 8750 rpm/103 lb-ft torque at 6750 rpm
six-speed slipper clutch
4 mode Traction Control w/off
Lean-sensitive Bosch ABS
4 piston Brembo's front, 2 piston rear
Hill Hold Control
4 mode semi-active suspension
TPMS, steering damper, five-position adjustable levers, lean angle sensing LED cornering lights, luggage rack and case carriers, handguards, crash bars, cruise control, one-hand adjustable windshield...
all standard.
This is the bike I'd trade the Wing in on, if I rode solo Cool
(& I'm pretty sure it'd carve up traffic, twisties, maybe even alittle off-road)

KTM 1290 Super Adventure S with SW Motech bags, bare risers & engine guard
(all this for about the same price as a new VMAX)

(correction; looks like they've deleted these from the new S)
Corrected correction; apparently they jus' redesigned them into the headlight
