Not much in the way of details. But I can only think maybe a blowout from a bald tire ?

Just because cops on scene said the cause was tires doesn't mean that was the cause.  My first thought was a car tire.

Did some cyber-stalking, turns out the deceased went to the same high school as I did...

Also, looks like it was a blowout...

"Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirms a motorcycle headed northbound near mile marker 92 experienced a blowout of its back tire around noon Sunday, ejecting the driver and a passenger."

"After investigation, troopers said the rear tire blew out, causing the motorcycle to roll on its side, throwing the driver off the bike."

Not that it has any bearing, but he was from the Dallas Metromess, heading northbound on I-35 in late July.... Bet he was Sturgis bound...

Most years a couple deaths due to rear tire blowout on way to and from Sturgis.

I bet they are mc tires. Overloaded. Hot. Fast speeds. Bet car tire would NOT have blown out.

Think we will hear call to switch to car tire, due to deaths caused by unsafe mc tires? In your dreams.

Deaths caused by mc tires.
No deaths by ct.

Must  ban ct on mc because unsafe!

Last year in Illinois da prez and Wiggy were airing up Wiggys rear tire when the side wall blew out. I had been following Wiggy and an "odor" of rubber and other "stuff" kept wafting back to me. When we came into this little burg I got alongside him and hollored and we pulled into a gas station. Ross found the air and Wiggy went to where the air was. I stayed with my bike and da prez's bike. I'm bout a block away from the air and I heard the tire blow. 3 Riders EXTREMELY happy that if/when that tire needed to blow we were dead stopped. Wiggy Has had Nuff excitement in his life already!  Roll Eyes Bad nuff when a Brother Rider goes down. I Do NOT want to contemplate A Brother Rider and FRIEND goin down in front of me.  Undecided As anal as I am bout my tires the one thing we as riders/drivers have NO control over is road hazards. In the comments section of the first link another Rider said they have had issues on that same section of highway. May the Bro R I P.  angel RIDE SAFE.

If that rear Metzeler m/c tire had blown out a half hour earlier while in the Bighorn Mts in 2013, me and Big Hair Chick would NOT be around today to talk about it!
Luckily, it let go on the flat section of road north of Cody and I was able to keep the big Victory upright at speed. Yes, it was hot, probably 110 that day. Don't think she was over loaded (2 up, saddlebags full, no trailer). I would not "ride to the mailbox" without checking tire pressure.
Car tires ONLY since then for touring, safety first!  uglystupid2

Could have been low tire pressures. My local service shop tells me that they find most bikes that come in for any service have low pressures. The owners never say anything about low tires so they aren't aware of the issue. Low tires squirm around which causes friction in the belts and significant rises in tread temps. A tire properly inflated doesn't get nearly as hot. Blame is placed on the tire but the rider is more often to blame.

Agree about many riders running way to low a pressure in their tires. Seen it many times.

A good rule of thumb - check air pressure every day before you ride.

Not sure what the Oregon drunk driver mom has to do with the Oklahoma motorcycle tire failure.

Ugh, it did one of those tricks where when you scroll past the first story it gives you a second story and changed the URL on me... it was another article about the Oklahoma incident, but since I scrolled past it it switched to that URL instead...
