Wharton. Here's a convoy from Austin County coming to EZ LUBE with 500 burgers chips and water. They're handing them out outside since Red Cross wants to throw food away! They have a constable escorting them in!! They will not throw this food away!!!

They should be there within the hour! Belleville Chamber of Commerce disaster relief donated sandwiches chips waters RED CROSS ACCEPTED THE DONATION AND THEN TRASHED THE FOOD! This convoy is coming and is NOT affiliated with Red Cross in any way! They're coming to feed our people!

Bellville Chamber of Commerce verified these accusations this morning and decided to no longer help when Red Cross is involved. They will go to the next shelter to help!

*** UPDATE*** they are now at EZ LUBE. THEY NEED DRINKS SNACKS AND ANYTHING YOU CAN OFFER!

Why is red Cross trashing the food? That is appalling.

I Still have a bad taste from the red cross for something that happened while in the Navy while stationed in Japan in 1966 or 1967. While I Know at times they are capable of good works the bad taste remains all these years later. And This little incident ain't helpin!  tickedoff RIDE SAFE.

They don't want to be shown up by local charities. The Red Cross will take in Billions and only distribute what is needed for a short time, the rest of the monies are banked. If local people get involved and help their own? Maybe Red Cross wont get as much in donations.

Back in the day, when things like this happened, it was people helping people. Now that thier are Billions involved, Government feels the need to run things  tickedoff Imagine if there was a private Bank that handled all donations, and then a check was written directly to the families who were displaced. They would immediately hire contractors to rebuild their homes, or use the monies to relocate and build somewhere else? But it would be immediate without red tape & Government horseshit.

I don't hold one whit of trust in banks doing the right thing. It's a good thought, but I seriously doubt it would happen. No to rain on your parade, but banks hold a permanent spot on my &^$@ list.

I use to work for the local chapter of the American Red Cross responsible for cutting checks for people in need and paying hotel bills and our volunteers, etc. as well as opening the envelopes for donations and doing the daily deposits.

I really do think they do great work, but one thing that REALLY, REALLY pissed me off is when my boss, the CFO,  told me to cut a check for 10 grand to one of our older employees and NOT question it.  I still questioned it to the point of saying NO, NOT doing it, but finally gave in and issued her the check.  Soon after she was GONE.  Sounds like some HUSH money to me sliding it under the table to get her worthless _ss out the door for good.    I really refused since told my boss that the money we issue checks out of comes ALL from local donations that we receive daily, along with my A/R collections billing insurance companies for our hemophiliac program I was also fully responsible for.   Soon after, I quit as well as the other accountant, since the part of the local chapter I was in went 'corporate/national'.

To take 10 grand and pay an employee to LEAVE silently is B.S., especially a NON-profit organization which is money coming from the local community in donations, even if 5-10 dollar checks mostly at the time.    WE also used that money to pay our salaries with, although not well paid as is most non-profit organizations.

The volunteers NOT getting paid is what keeps that operation running strong in my opinion, consisting of nice, older people who are retired or have the financial means to make due with what they have and get by.

article is right about 9-10% in administrative costs, so about 10 cents for every buck in donations is used to pay salary and expenses they have.

I get what your saying about Banks Baldo, But if it went to a local Bank just for distribution purposes, it would be overseen by the people on the ground.

As much as the Adm of red cross is not on my favorite list,
10% for adm and fund raising total is not so bad   10% solely for adm though is hardly good.

Contrast that with say.... any clinton foundation    coolsmiley
and see what you get for comparison

Not going to "Knock" the Red Cross.

But I do know that sometimes the larger an organization gets the harder it becomes for them to overcome the "Red Tape" that they have generated over the years.

I prefer to support smaller "Boots on the Ground" charities that don't have a lot of "Red Tape" to overcome.

Two organizations that are local to me but help people all over the country are my favorites:

Gleaning for the World https://gftw.org/

God's Pit Crew https://www.godspitcrew.org/

Not that I give much to organized charities, cause I don't, seen to many officers of them driving nicer cars than me, but my understanding is the best run one is "The Salvation Army"

Baldo, understand the bank comment.  But, I believe the govt does much WORSE in handling disaster funds. So, who should be used?
