I'm about done with my 1200, they're fairly easy to work on. Join up on the Naked Gold Wing board, like our Tech Board, they have tremendous knowledge on these old four cylinders.

Yup,I bought a 75 a month ago an now have it stripped down to the wheels ,frame and engine. I am cleaning everything and going naked stock GL1000.  It had a Vetter faring that I took off and probably 30' of spliced wiring. A snake pit of wires inside the faring. The engine seems to run good and I'll be getting vac. gages to do the carb sync.  I'll also do the drive train check and lube, bearings, seals. I learnd a lot from having two 1500 Gold Wings and a 02 Valk. This is going to be my winter project. Only thing I can't do is figure out how to post pictures of it on this board. Other forums are easy but I gave up.Sorry.

Aw c'mon Art, I'm older than you and even I figured out how to post pictures and I'm not that smart, just ask my wife. Grin  Set up a no cost account with Postimage.org then upload your pics to that. Then it's just three clicks and your pics are on here.

I don't remember them coming with an OEM fairing till later. A lot of guys put Vetter fairings on.

Nice bike Art.   cooldude

Pretty sure that is a Vetter fairing, though I never saw the gauge array across the top like that.

I had one very similar to that on my 750-4.

It is a Vetter faring but I removed it an an going with the stock look. Who ever installed it did a crummy job electrical with wires everywhere. Example is some wires having to go two feet they had four feet of wire all bundled up in the side pockets. I got fed up and cut them all out and now going to wire everything up stock. A real pita. In the meantime I will go through everything else front to rear.

Go for it if you haven't already.    A year ago I got a 1975 GL1000. It sat for a couple years at a used car dealer in northern Wisconsin. Needed carbs gone through and seals on the coolant tubes and a battery,  front brakes flushed and a general clean n check.  It only had 18000+ miles the timing belts looked new. I have been riding it now for a year, this winter I will put a roller bearing up date kit in the front steering as the old ball bearings are loose.  As for the motor it is now just really starting to run good. With 21000 miles on it now it is a kick to ride, of course not close to the ride and power of my 1832 Valkyrie, but the looks I get and the comments,  for a 42 year old motorcycle are fun to hear, essentially one HD rider that said those old Hondas just never die. Have fun enjoy........

I've been busy and won't have time till tomorrow / sunday to go look. Plus I gave him my number and told hime it would be easier to communicate that wway. But he is still using the Letgo app.??? Apparentley he is posting it for his father, so there's another gap in communication.

He's asking 800, what you all think it's worth?

Very nice rides. I like them both. But the main reason to get it is to have the fun of restoring myself.

Art, here's your bike, you have three more clicks to get to this. Just click on the picture in Postimage and it goes larger, above it to the left you'll see "share"...click it. Next screen gives a list of posting methods, go to the second from the bottom(Hotlink for forum) and click on the icon at the far right. It will say "copied" so then just go to your post here and click paste and it drops the source for the picture. When you go below the post just click on Preview and it will show your bike in the size you see here. Then when you click Post it will show the pictures.

I'm ready to buy. But I've noticed on other things, people post ads but don't follow up on answering replies. Haven't heard since Friday. My last post was, "Do you want to sell this?"

Irritating isn't it? I made an offer on another one for $100 for a parts bike but he wanted more. Don't hurt to try. Keep looking.

I have found this to be a major problem with Craigslist.

I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I have emailed or texted someone about an item that they had listed for sell on Craigslist and they have never responded back.

Although, I will say that overall people who list texting as a means of contact do have a better batting average when it comes to responding.

Another problem that I have ran into is someone selling something to someone else knowing that I was on my way to buy it.

Some people just have no consideration for other people.

BTW: I have an 82 and an 83 GL1100 that may be up for sale soon. I also have plenty of spare parts. If this doesn't work out for you give me a shout.

Thanks 3fan, but the great thing bout this bike is its just 30 miles up the road. Now I'm also looking at a 85 v65 magna 1100. Asking 900 also.

For that price I'd be tempted to buy the Magna.

I really like the V65 and would like to have one.

I have a V30 Magna that's a fun bike to ride but a PITA to work on.
