We are riding to Durango in a few days for a long weekend. Today was my only day off before we go, so I figured I'd do a couple little projects on the bike. I got a new auxiliary cord that has a 90* plug versus the one on the bike now with a straight plug. Figured it would fit my phone in the tank bib better. Also was going to change the air filter while I had the tank off. Well, right off the bat things went bad. After I got the tank off and was contemplating routing the cord, I notice one of my throttle cables was broke.  tickedoff I don't know how long it had been broken, never noticed anything wrong. So, I'm thinking I'm not going to get new cables in time to leave Thursday morning. Came in and looked around for some. Didn't feel comfortable with the timeline though. Then I think to myself, I wonder if my Standard cables will fit ? According to some old posts Attic Rat says they will. Yoo-hoo . Tear into the Standard and get them removed no problem. But getting the ones off the Interstate is not going so well. Evidently, some time in the past when I removed the air box for a Dan Marc install I mangled the cables under the front air boot. Must have put stress on the the cable which broke it. But, like I say never had any problems before. So anyway, with lots of cussing I manage to get the cables out without having to remove the air box. Whew, I really didn't want to do that.
I get the Standards cables on, but I find the throttle is not returning on its own with the bars turned full right.  tickedoff After much consternation I finally get everything set and routed so it's working properly. Finally get the new cord installed, new filter installed, and everything buttoned up. Time for a test run to make sure everything is ok. No start ! I never use the kill switch but in doing the throttle cables I had flicked a couple times. Check it, it's in the run position. Toggle it a couple times and woila we have ignition ! Take off without my helmet or wallet or phone. I was just going to run a few blocks and make sure everything is ok. Uh....everything is not ok. I feel it starting to starve for fuel, check the fuel selector and it's on . Switch it to reserve, no difference. Turn back towards home and it's dies. No problem, it's down hill. I just coast in neutral. But before my house I a dip in the road for a wash. About puked pushing it the rest of the way.  tickedoff Get her in the garage and I'm friggin exhausted now.
I think I must have pulled the wire to the Dan Marc in all of the jostling. But I'm too friggin tired to tear it apart again. Go in and drink a gallon of water and watch the hurricane news on TV. It will have to wait. I'm picking up my Sister in law and husband in Vegas tomorrow after work.

You got that right Gary.  Wink

Actually, not so much for my phone but for a GPS. I bought a cheap Chinese GPS that has a earphone jack. By hooking it up I can get directions to my helmet thru the aux. cord. Sometimes I do listen to music on my phone though.

I think you are right. But I guess it's good I found the broken throttle cable now instead of the middle of the Navajo Reservation. I'll get it. If worse comes to worse, we will take the Standard. Or the Miata.

Do you mean I may have to look for alternate dinner companions for Thursday night?  2funny

Not to worry Ron. Although I may need to drink a couple extra beers after all the turmoil.  Smiley

Yeah, it's pretty touristy. Just somewhere for us to get out of the desert.

Update. Wasn't able to get back to it till this evening. The other day when I worked on it, I thought the pinch clamp on the petcock vacuum line seemed not real strong. So, I went and got a stronger one at Ace Hardware. Well.....bigger isn't always better. Evidently the ears stuck out enough when I put the tank back down it knocked it off.  tickedoff So the moral of the story is, "If it ain't broke don't fix it". We are back in business for a Thursday morning launch to Durango.  Wink

Sorry about your bad luck.   Stuff happens.

If you're lucky like me, when finished you've got a whole bucket full of extra parts left over.

Ever been to Dolores?  Only 45 miles from Durango and a whole lot of difference between the two towns.
There should be some color over the roadways down there; fall is starting up in the high country.  The peaks around Crested Butte got some significant snowfall these past few days.
