 A bit warm, have 2 small generators going. One for the fridge n it's also hooked up to our water solar panel pump so we have hot water. The other unit will run fans tonight, coffee pot in the a.m., and either a toaster oven or microwave. No major damage, lots of debris. We have had a lot of help, trying to keep my wife comfy.
More when the 'cuz is hooked up.

Wife got pretty ill due to overheat, finally got that under control, still not feeling well so will watch it closely. The power just flickered so that's encouraging. Doing this on my phone is a pain.

I lucked out, went north to Greenville, SC to get away from the storm, it was even bad there, high winds and lots of rain.  My place came through unscathed, lots of small limbs and rubbish to clean up, but I think we just missed a twister,  about a 1/4 mile north of the house, over 30 large oaks uprooted, power lines down and several homes tore up pretty badly. Driving back from Greenville was a mess, I 75 from Atlanta, never made it over 25 mph all the way home, constant stop and go. Took 19 hours to go a little less than 600 miles, and gas was very hard to find, I was smart enough to carry 10 gallons with me, saved my butt getting back.

Just got power back about 45 min. ago, good timing because we were getting out stuff together to grab a room that just came available out near UCF. Rita is parked in front of an a/c vent and I'm getting ready to head for my Lazy Boy for a well deserve nap in cool comfort. Later I'll do some grocery shopping, cupboards are pretty bare, lost most everything in the fridge. We have a supply of dry foods but nothing like a hot meal. Thanks for all the messages of encouragement and concern. Things are looking up, the temp in the house had reached 90 degrees even with large fans running, blowing from the shaded side of the house.

Was a strange event when it came on. My neighbor was on the phone from his office, telling me a friend down the street just got power. Just as he said that, the light on Rita's bedside stand went on. As Rita exclaimed....."Praise the Lord and pass the grits."  The grid changes between our house and the house next door so the delay was probably a switching thing. Often we'll have a power loss and the people next door are fine, or vice versa. Kinda weird.

Glad and Happy you got the tricity back. Some folks in a nursing home in Hollywood Fl. weren't so lucky.  Sad part was there IS a hospital right across the street that is Fully Functional. The generators the nursing home were using didn't allow for A/C.  Again-Happy you didn't have to take the chance of moving Rita. RIDE SAFE.

Yes Dennis, when Charley hit in '04 and another right on the heels of it, we decided to hit the road. She was still able to travel then, today....no way, which had me worried. A two hour nap in cool comfort perked her right up, me too. We went out for some hot food from a drive through, tomorrow we'll clean up the house. We had some minor damage; a number of panels are messed up on the pool screen, and we had some leaks around the chimney. A box truck load of debris, most is already at the curb but probably won't get picked up for a week or two. All in all, we fared quite well. I do think I'll look into a good generator, preferably one large enough to let the a/c kick in, some lights, small appliances like toaster & coffee maker, maybe the microwave. Main thing is the a/c and fridge, a 10kw should do it, can't afford a whole house unit which comes in around $5k.

Will probably do that sometime down the road. Been thinking about a small heat pump&a/c unit combo to use in the shop. I already have a vent out to the shop but in either extreme heat or cold, it's still uncomfortable. Then I could pull that unit out and use it in the bedroom when needed. Not sure how I'd mount it in either place, don't have a window in the garage/shop, and the bedroom the only window is right next to her side of the playground. Guess I'd have to figure out how to mount it before the need arose.

Very strange storm, Rode in like a lion came through like deer. Impact here was greatest down by Naples and marco, Bonita area got a lot of flooding, sparatic power outages, I live on a spreader direct access northwest Cape and were given manditory evacuation notice. I moved to daughters condo in s e Ft myers 75 and Daniels road. Power went out way before Storm arrived. Eye went right over us.  I wouldnt have known a stom was outside if the rain hadent been hitting our windows. Felt like someone was outside spraying window with a water hose. If  it came at night and I was asleep I would not have woken. Daughters building was length wise east and west. We were in the middle first floor. Other than small trees no damage anywere around us. I think the building could handle a cat 5.  My home is in a fairly open area front of house faces east back west. Came home after storm neighbor who stayed next door said power flickered once but never went out. Only outage was Comcast. prabably power interuption somewhere a long the route to us. Vast majority of homes around use have shingled roofs and did not see damage to one roof throught my travels  around the area. Tile roofs no problem. Charlie was another matter. Came up Charlotte Harbor 5-6 miles north. I had no shutters at that ime took my pool cage, lost some tile and blew against my patio door so hard it forced the rubber seal between the frame and glass right out of the frame and was inside the the glass outside the frame on half of it. i was lucky enough and took the frame apart and was able to re install the rubber seal. I have 8 ft high sliders, 2 12 ft panels come together in a corner to open up to patio. If they had let go then the house would have exploded. Hope all are doing well and no one was hurt.
