My land-lady (my ex-wife - it's a long story!) and I chose to run in the face of Irma... First, we fled to Columbus, GA, and we got a room for a couple of nights. Well, Irma continued to change course to one more northwesterly after having veered somewhat northeasterly over the middle of Florida, so we retreated towards Meridian, MS.
We ended up in Philadelphia, MS, where we stayed 'marooned' for four nights... in a casino! Well, she loves to gamble, so she found quite satisfactory distraction in all of that.
I, on the other hand, had my laptop with me, but it was on the blink! Geeez, for the first time in quite a while I was cut-off from all the folks with whom I stay in touch... well, except for the phone, of course, which I did use.
Anyway, I felt like I truly was marooned, even more so because I do not gamble. I figured it was a fried hard drive deep within the mysterious bowels of my incomprehensible smart box; however, it turned out to be something really simple, which got corrected this very afternoon! I'm back!!!
We're back in Columbus, GA, again, but we can't go home just yet because the power is still off in our neighborhood. Well, my ex wants to get home, even without power, so we may head that way tomorrow. We'll see. If we do return tomorrow, and the power remains off, ALI and I will be mobile again pronto!!! The thought of hot, muggy weather with no air conditioning is just too horrible for this delicate biker to contemplate!

Bruce, You're always welcomed in KY. Having said that, I find it hard to apply the term delicate to you. Come on up and let's ride to the Dragon Round Up. I'm leaving a bit late. But, I'll get there. Would love to have you ride with our little group.

Oh my, I can't imagine having my ex active in any business dealings with me, and we get along great....NOW! In fact she and my present wife get along great, go figure. My ex could never balance a checkbook until one day she got real excited....she had balanced(we had separate accounts). I checked and sure enough she had balanced.....due to offsetting errors. I never told her, just congratulated her and left it at that.

You just can't make that kinda stuff up! Yeah, for sure! It's like Grandpa Jones of 'Hee-Haw' fame used to say, "Truth is stranger than fiction!" My 'journey' has indeed been a curious route down some unbelievable side roads, even a couple of rabbit holes... but always there has been a positive outcome. I wouldn't want to have missed any of it! I suppose one could argue that things have been looking up for me ever since I got far enough south to start recovering from grits withdrawal... something I have diligently and continuously addressed! My good fortune is apparently still holding, as a couple of folks have confirmed to me that 'our' house is unharmed and everything appears to be in good order. Lots of debris and no power, but otherwise... ALI is in the garage safe and sound, but I know she's wondering what the heck I've exposed her to, and why I abandoned her in such threatening circumstances. I'm going to have a tall order explaining everything and making all of this up to her... I'm thinking a good road trip might be in order... reckon? DDT

We departed Columbus, GA, early this morning... A word about that... I consider myself an early riser... most of the time, that is. Well, my ex is normally a sleepy head… most of the time. So... imagine my surprise when she woke me up quite early this morning, and 'asked' if we could go ahead and head home... Yeah, like I actually had anything to say in the matter! I grudgingly drug my lethargic ol' bod out from under the covers and headed for the... you know... By the time that chore was attended, I was beginning to regain consciousness and realize what she was saying... I reminded her there was no power at our place, then I mentioned several of the obvious inconveniences of such a condition... Didn’t matter… Truth be told, I really knew this was coming… She’d begun packing the evening before… even loading most of her things in the car before going to bed. I suppose I was hoping reality would kick-in any moment and she’d display some sign of logic and sensibility. Like an old mare, though, once she gets the bit in her teeth, there is just no turning her… Now that I should have remembered! We left the motel in plenty of time to enjoy all the rush-hour traffic benefits Columbus has to offer… and I got us trapped in the wrong lane which resulted in us getting onto I-185 going the wrong way… Dang! I took the next exit and did a dipsy-doodle, a U-turn, and a not so graceful lane merge, but we made it back onto I-185 going in the direction I’d intended… and there had been no casualties or property damage at all! I was thinking, “I sure hope our luck holds the rest of the way!” We cruised on down through southwestern Georgia, and, I must say, it was rather pleasant; traffic was light, the weather cooperative, and no LEOs to dispense any performance awards. We stopped a couple of times, as geriatric travelers are prone to do… I was reminded of a cap I should have bought up in Michigan last month; but, naturally, I didn’t. Anyway, it read, “RETIRED: Now I can go anywhere I want… As long as it’s near a restroom!” We stopped in Valdosta, GA, to top off the gas tank (dire warnings of limited gas in Florida caused us to err on the side of caution!), and we grabbed a bite to eat… at one of the many iconic Waffle House eateries, always where you need one in dear ol’ Dixie. She had a BLT, while I had grits, eggs, bacon and toast… and of course sweet tea to wash it all down with. We made the rest of the largely unremarkable trek, well, except for heavier than normal traffic, then drove up into our driveway. Oh my, lots of debris – limbs, leaves, and such, but no trees down and NO damage at all to the house! It certainly looked much worse than it actually was… wonderful! We went inside, and found there still was no power. I went about clearing a space in the garage for her car, which included cranking-up ALI and moving her outside… WOW! She was completely un-phased by all the recent excitement, and she even communicated to me that she was ready to head out anytime I was… “Soon, my dear, very soon!”, I responded in my most seductive, crooning voice… About an hour or so following our arrival, the power kicked on! I wondered if possibly my ex had some sort of premonition or vision or something, or if she and I are just plain lucky! Whatever it is, it appears I’ll be able to take a shower this evening after all (hot water heater is now back on), and I’m already cooled down from the A/C and ceiling fans being on!!! Life is surely good once again… DDT

Marooned..... with an ex-wife. Sounds like a Rod Serling thing. I'm gonna have nightmares over that one. Yep. It is a bit bazar, Jess, I do admit. What's more, I never saw this coming either. However, things have a way of unfolding in mysterious, often incomprehensible ways as we venture along the path of life, and many times we surprise ourselves with such unexpected developments! Your Rod Serling reference strikes me as not very far off, indeed!!! DDT Bruce, You're always welcomed in KY. Having said that, I find it hard to apply the term delicate to you. Come on up and let's ride to the Dragon Round Up. I'm leaving a bit late. But, I'll get there. Would love to have you ride with our little group. [/quote] Ron, I do appreciate the offer! I'm not going to be able to make the DRU this time, but... Just yesterday I got a PM from our old buddy Charlie Morse, and he mentioned my joining him on a ride he'll be making soon... one that includes a visit to Frankfort, KY! I just may get a chance to ride with you after all... DDT Bruce,
Columbus Georgia, isnt that where or close to where the next Inzane will be??

LOL! Yeah, I'm positive it is the place... or near the place... or in the same corner of the universe as next year's IZ! Hope to see you there... or wherever... I'm sure Ali will forgive you after a few miles. Thanks, Rob... I'd have posted sooner, but my smart box wasn't working properly, and I thought it was seriously broke! I took it to a very nice young lady member of the Geek Squad in Columbus yesterday, and she un-broke it in a matter of seconds! Anyway, I was unable to let folks know what I was up to... It is nice to know I was missed and that others were concerned! DDT Bruce, glad to hear all is well. As Meathead stated Ali will forgive just a few good miles and she has forgotten her ordeal. As with others we want to hear the story too, I will buy the beer Perhaps you and Mark can join me in a conversation over a brew or two... or ten... and I can fill ya in... It ain't really dramatic or romantic or anything like that... We're just a couple of folks getting on in years, and we have a history and good experience together... DDT It sounds like just a Nother adventure
Yeah, Wayne! That's actually pretty much it! FYI, I just love my life, and I'm mighty proud to be here!!! Hope all is well in Cullman, AL... DDT Glad you fared well! Thanks, Daniel. We did indeed fare well! Looks like you are faring rather well shedding the pounds and inches, too! Congratulations again!!! DDT Another great adventure!
Oh, Napper... yes it is another adventure... and a great one at that. There were some pretty special moments and encounters on this outing, but I haven't taken the time to try and jot them down. Anyway, as you well know having shared many adventures with me, it is always a treat to be out yonder wandering around just taking life as it comes... and feeling the warm glow of discovery at every turn... Thanks for the comment... And, thanks for many good memories! DDT

Again, thanks, Ron, for your always kind remarks and generous offer! Charlie and I haven't nailed down any sort of 'plan' as to when, where, or even if we'll actually meet up... I do hope we can though, as he is a kindred spirit and one with whom I've enjoyed comparing notes and swapping yarns of our adventures over the years. He is an earnest student of 'us', and a person with some special insights and perspectives on many of the things that interest yours truly, so naturally I am drawn to him. He's also, as you well know, one heck of a nice guy, and I like him a bunch! Anyway, things do take their own course, and this too will fall into place, or not. We'll keep you informed! As to falling into a pile of crap... Yeah, 'Providence' does seem to smile most favorably upon this undeserving soul... Smelling like roses, however... ummmm, that might be a metaphor stretch a bit beyond the pale! It has been quite a journey, though, and I'm mighty glad to have been able to make it!!! DDT
