I have a friend with a 1200 GoldWing that needs some attention to get it running, and the local Honda dealers (Knoxville) won't touch it. Any suggestions for a mechanic? He also needs to replace the windshield that was shattered by hail.

Wish he was closer, Knoxville is a bit too far for an afternoon run.  Wink  What's the issue he's dealing with....besides the w/s.

An afterthought, you might check out the www.ngwclub.com and ask that same question. Like the VRCC, they have riders/mechanics all over the place. Those guys that have the oldies are passionate about getting them up and running, traveling all over the continent with them.

I think it's carb issues from sitting too long.  He also mentioned that the last time he had it running, the bike would lurch forward and stall when he put it in gear, even with the clutch pulled in.  He said he thoroughly bled the clutch hydraulics to no avail.  I think his clutch disks have stuck together from lack of use, and he needs to either jolt them free or pull the clutch and pry the disks apart.

I'll send him the link to the ngw club so he can ask the question there himself.  I'd rather not have to be a go-between in perpetuity.

I liked the goldwingdoc.com , when I had the GL1100 and the GL1500.

Service manual? pm me his email address, 35 MB.

It does sound like the clutch plates sticking. Just run the engine a little and try to move the bike. I think over time (days) it should get enough oil to disconnect.

I know we could help him solve his problems, and he says he has a service manual, but what he really needs is a mechanic to do it for him.  He is from Alberta and went to Tennessee for work a few years ago, and has been too busy to pay attention to his bike.  I just saw him here in Alberta at his son's memorial service.  Cry  He will be moving back to Alberta in July 2018, and would love to be able to do some riding down there before he returns. He would like to ride his bike back home while his wife drives their stuff when the time comes.

Out of business for several years . I've sent a message to a guy in Knoxville that has a great reputation as a motorcycle mechanic and works on bikes in his garage.

I've passed on the information to him, including Jess's offer.  Thanks for all your replies.
