Dang it all! All this modern technology stuff sure is nice, and it is most convenient. Smart phones, laptops, heck, they even have a 'health monitor' wrist watch like thing you can wear on you all the time. It counts the number of steps you take in a day and all sorts of other stuff, too. Now, you don't have to wait until you see your doctor, you can get some bad news and negative feedback in real-time!
What's more, and I'm not a bit proud of this either, like so many others, the simple fact is, I too have allowed myself to grow dependent upon all of these miraculous contraptions, devices, and gizmos. It is also confounding, bewildering, and extremely frustrating for us non-techies when things don't work correctly… like this morning.
I got up early, did my business, hit the 'On' button on the coffee maker, and proceeded to crank-up the ol' laptop, then do my usual wait ritual. I came back a little later, poured that all important first cup of java, and then proceeded to go through the remainder of the routine…
Only this time, as I was just settling in for another routine morning start-up session, instead being greeted by unflattering pics of POTUS and some new earth-shaking revelations about him cutting tags off of pillows or something equally heinous, I get the dreaded window… the one advising, "HMMMM, can't reach this page…" Ever see that one? Of course you have! Well, I fooled around a while trying this and that… and, naturally, nothing worked…
Somewhere along the way, I've been told the 'router' sometimes needs to be re-booted. Fine. I'm a guest here, so I don't even know where the router thingy is, let alone how to go about… re-booting or whatever (yeah, right about now I'd be more than willing to give that incredible marvel a swift kick!). What's worse, it's early, like I said, and my host happens to be a sleepy-head, and this is all happening on a pre-dawn Sunday morning. Yep, this will take a while, and if that isn't even the problem… I just hate being held hostage by technology!
Napper actually did wake-up before the sun had climbed very far at all into the eastern sky, and she did the re-boot thing while still only semi-conscious - very impressive by the way - but… nothing. Double Dang! She then proceeded to do the entirely logical and sensible thing of calling her internet provider (now I'm really impressed!).
She was informed there were problems in our area (her service is provided by the local cable TV operator) and that technicians were working on restoring service. Yeah, right… did I mention this was all happening on a Sunday morning?
Well, I do have this app (listen to ME!) on the ol' laptop that enables me to vent my frustration without actually being connected to AL Gore's magnificent gift to mankind… so, here I am… venting! At least the 'Notebook' is working correctly… even the Spell Check feature is fully functional, and that is a very good thing indeed…
Being optimistic by nature, I'm still holding out hope things will improve soon… Monday for sure… I do plan to head out early Monday morning, though, so, I may not be able to publish anything about all of this until I land somewhere else tomorrow evening… Probably a good thing, that… It'll give me some time to cool down, calm my nevers, and maybe edit some of the expletives out of this piece so Willow won't have to scold me… Oh, I'll be aboard ALI when I depart, so… just to make this ride related…

UPDATE: Service was restored by afternoon on Sunday! That did exceed my expectations… I didn't depart this morning either… another 'plan' shredded! I decided to just skip the sandwich quest long-cut through Arkansas for now... I'm going to hang around Montgomery another day or two instead, then ride more or less directly towards Lake Charles, LA… got a wedding to attend down there, you see… I'm also counting heavily on the reassurance I've received, that nuptial exchanges aren't contagious! I can be such a risk-taker sometimes...
