Anyone heard anything about Petty having a massive heart attack and is on life support?

Yup...

Might be time for the Last Dance with Mary Jane... Sad

TMZ is the source, but they're usually pretty reliable, believe it or not:

http://www.tmz.com/2017/10/02/tom-petty-found-unconscious-full-cardiac-arrest/

With this as an update:

"We're told after Petty got to the hospital he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support.  "

Now they're backing off the story and saying he's just not well?

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lapd-clarifies-cannot-confirm-tom-petty-death/

Reading between the lines it sounds like he's had brain death but some basic functions, but time will tell...

Either way, it doesn't look good for him.

My wife Lisa's favorite singer/band growing up. Brought all her records with her when we hooked up... this here country boy had never even heard of him at that time. Great music though and prolific writer... just watched his Netflix biography earlier this year... great insight into his history.

There's a 20-or-so year old movie that "everyone" hated (I remember
thinking it was good)... "The Postman"... a post-apocalyptic movie starring
Kevin Costner. Part of the plot involved a band of helpful hippies that Costner
comes across, lead by Tom Petty.

Me and Carolyn saw him in nearby Greenville South Carolina not too many
years ago. The opening band was so loud I thought I was going to have to
leave. The Heartbeakers were louder, on the first song every base note
felt to me like a smack in the chest with a 2x4... sadly, that was all I could
take... on the way out I asked the concession stand if they had ear plugs...
why sure, that'll be $2... I went back in and they were terrific!

I've been playing music with some guys up at Mountain Rest on Thursday
nights recently, I still wear ear plugs...

My wife graduated with Tom at Gainesville High School in Gainesville FL.  She said he was in a different circle.  Not in hers.  But she remembers him and mentioned his name over the years as a celebrity that went to school with her.

My current band does some Petty. One is Mary Jane. Always liked his stuff. Being on the road and living that life style is a tough business especially if you get mixed up with drugs and alcohol. It will eat you up at a very young age.

Well, I may be overstating his importance to the music. He was one of MY favorites.  Wink

I'm amazed people, particularly Americans 45 & up, haven't heard of Tom Petty.

Artists with fewer claimed sales than Top Petty include*:
Journey
Alabama
The Police
Kiss
Aretha Franklin
Bob Marley

Could be explained by the type of music they produce.

I used to listen to both kinds of music, both Country and Western.   Wink
Have heard of Alabama and admittedly, most of the others but, they didn't produce what I call music to a certain extent.    I suppose I ought to learn how to operate that radio thingy in my trucks.   It's got a bunch of knobs and buttons and tells time pretty good.   It's right at least twice a day.
