In my 35 years of living in Alaska I have only seen 3 Lynx. And 2 of those were just fleeting glimpses. They are usually pretty elusive. This story is very unusual but very cool.

Magnificent cats.  The state of Colorado started a program in the late 90's to repopulate the state and establish healthy numbers of them in the high country.  It has been quite successful to date with low mortality and active breeding around the state.  All that remains is for humans to stay the ___ out of the way.  Haven't seen either moose nor lynx; that's ok with me as I know that they are out there being wild.

I would guess maybe that Alaska's concentrated populations would be more eastern to southeastern along the Canadian borderline?

They can be found over a lot of Alaska. They prefer more wooded areas though.

We got lynx here... ours are a little different. I only got a good look at one once,
I was with my Cousin Bill, fishing on the Chattooga river (yep, that river). He was
fishing, I was just sitting on the bank a curve or two down the river from him.

All of a sudden there was a Bobcat on the other side, he didn't see me. I got to
watch him for a while, he drank some water, he looked a lot like a super-sized
house cat.

Lynx canadensis

Lynx rufus
