I really miss going for a proper ride. With the exception of the family trip to Billings for Inzane and one 106 mile (one way) trip to a weekend men's retreat, I have done virtually no recreational riding this year. Usually winter precludes riding after the end of October; once salt is put down on the roads, I'm done riding until spring. All my riding has been back and forth to work, or running errands within the city, you know, riding for reasons other than The Ride.
My father-in-law moved in with us last year, and I've had the big (for me) project of altering the basement to make it a functional semi-independent home for him. Having to work around all the stuff of combining two households has added to the complexity of an otherwise simple job. He'll have his own bedroom, bathroom, and office/living room, with a door he can close off from the rest of us, but he has some meals with us and shares our kitchen. Of course he's welcome to join us in our common rooms as well.
I've also been heavily involved in my church, in leadership and teaching roles. It's work that I love, and I don't see letting up on it until I'm incapable of continuing.
The basement alterations are finally at a point where I see the light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully done by the end of November by working one or two evenings and all day Saturday every week, so I'm VERY much looking forward to being able to shift my focus to the things I've been neglecting. Over the winter I'm planning on a personal renovation similar to Daniel Meyers'. Next season I'm going to make a point of getting at least two or three long weekend trips in. I might even make the Valhalla gathering.

I haven't been as busy as you. But I have not ridden much except back and forth to work. Now that good weather is finally here, I hope to change this. (Good on you for doing this for your FIL)

Pretty similar here, I planned a long trip but couldn't do it because of work and family.
Hope next year is better for riding. :-)

GR, I strongly recommend you make Valhalla next year...you will not be disappointed. We've extended it by one day for 2018. Suggest you book early if you're considering it ...can always cancel if you can't make it. Calgary to Grand Forks is a great ride in itself, and that combined with a couple days riding through the Kootenays will certainly provide a cure for any withdrawls caused by your 2017 drought My plan is to ride to Roanoke for Inzane then make a beeline back to Grand Forks in time for Valhalla....can pick you up along the way

We have been fortunate to get in a lot of riding this year. Most have been weekend jaunts, but we did get in a couple of week long trips. We put on almost 15000kms this summer. Maybe next year it will be better for you Gryphon Rider.

I have two bikes. Both got new rear tires in April (or so). Neither rear is worn out ... I haven't looked at the one I rode to the Fall Color Ride on since I got back... Oh well, look on the bright side... -Mike "Neither rear is worn out "

I too hve not ridden that much. I was off the bike for 3.5 months for the accident. I do ride either the Valk or the KTM everyday and most weekends we do a loop ranging from 150 to 350 miles, either on Sat or Sun. We cant do overnights because of the animals. Time looking for a house and then moving has taken up valuable time...but hopefully will get more riding in

I did it! I went out for an actual ride today, 190km with some fellow Calgary CMAers. That was likely the last ride of the season. I purchased oil and a filter yesterday, washed the bike before the ride, and filled it up close to home just now. Sometime in the next couple of weeks I'll change the oil and pull the battery, then put the cover on and call it a season.
