Widow lady across the street from me needed a new battery in her Ford pickemup today as the old one Refused to take a charge. So pulled the old battery went to our local Oreillys and we both liked near fell over when the guy gave her the price. The one she bought at Oreillys 4 years ago-2 year battery-was bout $80.00. Todays replacement-nudder 2 year battery-was-hang on to yer wallet/credit card/checking account-$152.00. And then I rekemembered-the former potus closed a rather large lead mine here in the sho me. And Ross-da prez-when I informed him in turn informed me that he seemed to recollect a battery recycler was closed in either Tn. or Ky. near the same time frame. NOT for sure if the battery recycler is still operating in Doe Run Mo? So What-we're Importing lead now? That MIGHT splain the 100% price increase on a lead acid storage battery. SOOO iffin yer needin a New Battery soon-git ready for the STICKER SHOCK. RIDE SAFE.

Don't exaggerate, O2S. That's only a 90% increase.

Well over the past year I have been watching them climb. Every couple of months I purchase another hand full, and each time is another 7-15% increase. Small, large, AGM, flooded, all up. On top of that it seems as though the quality may be suffering??

Walmart. About a year ago I got a battery for my Ford f150 for less than $50. Still going strong. Granted it's not the best but for that money. And they have good MC batteries. For the big bucks I'd get a acid free battery.

Prices are up and quality is down. Used to be able to buy 5, 7, and I believe there were even some 9 year batteries. Now, the best I can find is a 3 year warranty. Even AGM batteries only have 3 year warranties. In my experience they do last a lot longer but the price is way up there. The Ultima Red Tops in my trucks retail for $240 bucks each and there are two in each truck. Producers and retailers are going to make their profit and bump it if they can but, this all started when former President Obama went after lead producers. My understanding his efforts were to raise prices on ammunition but, lead goes in batteries to. My understanding is most of our lead now comes from Canada and China. Please correct me if that is not correct.

Making batteries is a filthy process, while they do make some here in the US, Chinas laws or lack of laws makes it easier to make there. I'm sure there are lead plants in canada too. We do most of our work for JCI (johnson controls) which is the biggest battery manufacturer in the world. Also build machines for Winchester ammunition.

I believe that Canada exports processed lead ore to us, not sure about completed batteries.

Do you know where those batteries were produced? My bet is, not in the US but I would be interested to know.

Been a day or three and I can Not recall the manufacturer but I recollect picking up American made automotive batteries somewhere in Kansas. Had a 69 Pontiac Catalina and put in a Sears Die Hard and seems to me it was around 40 bucks. Had a 3 or 4 year no question non prorated replacement guarantee and seems to me I used the guarantee twice. I'm thinkin they'd prorate up to 9 years after purchase. Course at that time Sears was Still a force to be reckoned with. I'm gonna swing by wally wurld Sunday after Church and peruse the battery section and see how far they've gone up. RIDE SAFE.

I just Checked, now it's down to 4 year warranty...... At least they still offer free road side assistance, I actually used that once after leaving my lights on and having nobody to boost!

I hate batteries ! I just ordered 6 new batteries for my RV.
4- Golf cart 6 volt, and 2-12 volt group 31 starting batteries due to a drain on the system the old ones are all dead. (my fault, I thought I hit the dis-connect about 75 days ago, and I guess I did not) They were all about 5 years old, so no sense trying to revive them now.
I am $800 dollars poorer today than yesterday, and that was for cheaper batteries.

I treat my cart's batteries better than I do my sweetie. Replacing four big deep cycle batteries looks like a car payment. The RV's 6 year old battery gave up the ghost late last year so I took the aging but still good regular car battery out of my '01 LeSabre winter beater and put it in the RV just for short term use like the AC & refrigerator 12v control power and treated the Buick to a new battery to make sure I get a good shot at starting below 0°. Would rather have a gas cart but they aren't allowed in the park we have our trailer at.

A while back a friend found a way to re generate batteries with (I believe) Epsom salt. He adopted a golf cart and it needed batteries. The 8 volt batteries at this point were around $80.00 my cost. He found this info on line and re stored the batteries. The last I knew , he used them for three years. I am no longer in contact with him to find out if they still work.

The truth is - even if Trump reverses Obama's malfeasance - the prices won't go back down. It's a ratchet. For many reasons. My wish is politicos could be held personally responsible for the damage they inflict. Yeah I know. Pipe dream.

A store called Rural King opened up near me this summer. They have some of the best battery prices that I've seen in awhile. If you have one near you check it out: https://www.ruralking.com/storelocator/index/index
