I put this up on the NFL post but due to the vitrol there I am putting this out here slightly modified.

I confess that I really feel bad for all the hard working (many hundreds of thousands of them) people who have season tickets or other packages of tickets for NFL games who are disgusted by the antics of players and the league office of late. (this is not about the criminal abuse or drug abuse which is deplorable but about the failure of the league to enforce its rules this year

What are the nfl fans really supposed to do, just lose their money in order to stay home and protest? Who will reimburse them? What about all the people who work in the stands selling hot dogs, beer etc? and the kids selling t shirts and parking cars ?

Bottom line is the nfl is a  profit oriented organization (not a non profit they are in it to make money- period) that now ignores its own rules, which by the way, state STAND FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM

If the rules did not say that then we would have a different paradigm but they say stand, which is what we all should be doing anyway,

I have no problem not watching games on tv (being a giant fan as I am still mad they moved from the Bronx to NJ and dont even get me started about the Dodgers lol), or any assault on off site profits of sponsors as the networks have been complicit in the erosion of national values  for 8 yrs plus

I am just sick of reading threads where members jump on making either snide comments or throwing childish insults to other members

If you are a person who may think I am referring to you then you probably are correct.

This one upmanship does nothing but demean the forum and its users whether Canadians or US citizens or Aussies or whatever.   We want to grow this club, not shrink it yes?  Our membership is shrinking.
I believe in good part to the failure of members to imagine they are standing next to the person they are attacking

Lets all look in the mirror, I want to see this club around for awhile longer and I do what I can to introduce any Valk owners to the club here in NY   YMMV of course

Thanks for your concern but I'm afraid it will fall on deaf ears. The ones attacking and opposing every idea don't care about this club. Their main objective is to be a troll and get people pissed off by twisting what was said 180 degrees and claiming that is in fact what was said. I know we should just ignore these people but it is kind of hard to do so when you have a thread with 50 posts and 30 of them are from 1 member.

I just stop reading the posts, once I stop getting any useful information from them. I also try to stay out of them, for different multiple reasons.

I for one, have stopped reading any political posts and quit following any posts that become political. That has, unfortunately, stopped my reading of most of the general board since it seems all posts become political and the name calling on both sides of the fence is becoming more and more uncivilized. I have fairly thick skin but see no reason to subject myself to the rants of those on either the right or the left. Many boards will allow no political rhetoric, and as little as I like the current diatribe of certain members, I like the freedom this board allows members in the expression of their political views. I just wish the vitriol could be lessened and reasoned conversation furthered. I don't have to agree with you, and visa-versa, to hold a civil conversation. We may never agree on certain issues but we should be able to discuss those issues in a reasonable tone without churlish overtures.

Oss, I think people should do whatever they wish, and have no problem with that. Some folks have waited years (decades?) to get season tickets and if they want to go to games, they absolutely should. This is America. Me, I was a Packers fan for 50+ years, but suddenly the NFL sits in my stomach like a meal of spoiled meat. It's impossible for me to cheer for a team/league or (anything else) that I have no respect for, so I'm done. As for the folks who depend on football for a living, oh well. If the players don't give a damn about all the people who work in the stands selling hot dogs, beer etc. and the kids selling t shirts and parking cars, I'm sure not going to. Guess they may go the way of the blacksmith.

There are always 2 that make an argument or lively discussion. Its like the guy in the car on the road that is truly annoying. On his phone, speeding up slowing down, looking around stopping at every corner just a total annoyance. Now we could say that there is nothing wrong with that and maybe that is exactly how they want to live their lives and that makes it important to them.

But really did you ever think that is what they live for? Maybe it gives relevance to their lives and its an important outlet.

In life there are all kinds of people and running any organization is, who do you want to be part of it. Do you want the extreme freaks with body piercings or the corporate types. All come with their own baggage. All come with their own particular way to tweak people and situations.

No one would continue a behavior unless they are getting something out of it as witnessed those who will not be part of those more lively type of discussions. I would only ask why leave the board if you dont like that discussion and not make your own.

In a party when circulating you join one discussion and find you dont like it you go onto another and you try to avoid the one person that is like the hanger on or the super cool dude that follows you around.

In a tv show if there was no anti hero it would be a pretty boring show and that is why we watch it. To see good overcome evil.

Now this board is host to so many varied and different people with only one common thread really, the Honda Valkyrie. Do you really think this crowd is going to be uniform and orderly? LOL

I must admit I have had my blood pressure go up on more than one occasion and while in life we experience so much more of a person than on this board and we could more than likely not only get along with someone with opposite views from us we could actually like their company. Here its like freeze dried coffee with no water.

My hats off to those that moderate like a ref in a fight and keep this with as much freedom as possible.

If you dont like the post, start your own even on a similar topic, dont look at the topic that is nuts to you or post motorcycle related posts. I think this board still accepts them, and if they seem to go bye to quickly refresh them, respond with a word go search and bring them to the front again, the options are only limited by you. Which again shows a particular mentality of not being able to post because someone else is a bad boy.

I have not found one person I would not ride with here, especially since even those with opposing views are normally decent kind and for the most part thoughtful people. So meeting in person might just water down the edge of the conversation just enough for me to enjoy that person.

Peace to you guys, be who you are, dont be afraid of commenting as long as its not insults and enjoy what you need. I have learned to converse better, think more diversely and think about things and prove out things that I might not have done before because I had to think deeply for a response here.

So thanks to all even those I dont agree with because you have made me much more effective in dealing with those in real life with opinions I dont agree with. Thanks again also to all those who run the nut house for freedom to post, and shame on you who dont post because you dont like the political posts for giving up and not posting your own posts. I wonder do you give up on life so easily or maybe that is an excuse because this is not your thing.

Making a case for not removing a pebble from one's shoe? I quit posting a year or two ago when I found it impossible to avoid the worst of the political slamming because it was spilling over into virtually every thread. That included skipping Inzanes, since the farther one drifts online, the less things mean in person. Figured I'd try one more time with different settings, but it's going to have to be a shared goal or it won't work.

Having one thing in common (in this case, our Valkyries) is not sufficient reasoning to think we're all going to get along.   Some folks are asshats (pretty sure some think that of me).   It is what it is.
I really try to get along but, there are some things that do push my buttons.   I try to ignore it but, there are times I simply can't hold back.   Admittedly, we all have a button or two.

So I finally took someone's advice and used that ignore feature.   It's made me a happier camper.
Ride what you want, I don't care.   Treat others as you wish to be treated and if that don't work, use the ignore feature.  Wink

On a side note:  ¿spoom, I have absolutely no idea how to say or express your screen name.
I'll blame it on my inattention while in school but, any help would be greatly appreciated.  Wink

My pleasure, it's just "woods?" upside down. My last name is Woods, and a few decades ago in my factory days, we had a small maint. shop dedicated to the robotics and automation tech end of "Building 2" in a large complex. As often happens with any small group of like-minded techs/mechanics, there were constantly practical jokes like picking the lock on a buddy's roller chest and swapping all his SAE and metric sockets or wrenches, changing a desk calendar with last year's, etc. On the upper riser of my workbench were a lot of tech manuals with Woods on them in large letters with magic marker, since many coveted books would disappear and forget to come back. Somebody turned their head the wrong way and wrote, "who the hell is spooM?" on the dri-mark board. The nickname stuck and became my name on the original VOA site when it formed in '96.

I hear you, Evan.  I have tickets for the NJ - Dallas game in Dec.  I paid almost $300 each plus ticketmaster fees and parking.  If I choose to boycott, I lose almost $700.  That's a lot of money to throw away.

I was hoping this would have gone away by now, hopefully it will be gone by Dec.

A good conversation.

1st , The NFL
Well, this will run its course.  The players are entertainers and if an owner/coaches senses that they are a detriment to the bottom line or major distraction, sooner rather than later they will be unemployed.  Players have a right to free speech and owners/coaches have a "free at will" employment.  That being said the NFL is not going away, even with the  traumatic brain injury coming to light; we have been watching people in close battle for entertainment at least since the Roman Coliseum era.

2nd, Politics
Needless to be say bikers tend to be independent confident folks.  I like that.   On top of that our machines are big bikes, probably attracts another subset of individuals more confident and independant than the average biker.  Let'em swing away at each other with words, at times it can be entertaining lurking from a distance.

3rd, Membership
It does not surprise me if the membership declines a bit.  Our machines are moving into the "classic" stage for motorcycles; it is a different individual that rides a classic machine vs. an ultra modern machine.  The new Wing will undoubtedly pull a few more away.  But yet the Valkyrie will live on.
Needless to say, most of our machines will outlive us.  I look forward to putting collector plates on mine in a few years (20 years in MN).  I think OSS is correct though, we need to invite Valkyrie riders we meet on the road, at least make them aware.

As I was reading the first part I was thinking, "Why not sell them? Maybe you'll get more." but then you threw me a curve. I hadn't considered that it could make it all better to some folks and "be gone" if they suddenly stood up or whatever. Myself, the Packers President and Head Coach said they "supported the players" which is what sent me over the edge, so I don't see myself ever being able to give a damn about the NFL. Curious how many folks would see things, "afterwards". Maybe I'm just stubborn or something-after all the strikes/lockout in 1980's baseball I walked away and never looked back, don't even miss it. Guess I've just been thinking the same would happen with football.

Since I have a few different motorcycles, I happen to belong to 6 different motorcycle sites. I also belong to 3 RV sites.  I will say, this is the only one that talks about religion, politics, guns, etc.  Subjects sure to ruffle some feathers. I work weekends, since I own a business, so I don't get to interact with any other members here, in fact, I've actually never met anyone here in my 5 years checking out this site. I've only met Big BF. Nice Guy!  Most of the subjects I mentioned at the beginning I also have opinions about. I just keep them to myself. I don't tell people how I vote, I don't tell people to believe my religion, and I don't tell anyone whether I carry or not. The reason I don't is because I'm not going to convince anyone to change, and no one is going to convince me to change on the above issues. I just looked over at a thread on the NFL and guns, and a heated debate is starting there. I won't respond on my opinion for that one either. I am surprised when I read peoples comments on this forum. Some people are outright vindictive, and couldn't care less if they belittle another person. It's kind of a shame, but I guess it's a sign of the times. I am surprised that people with a common thread to bind them, an awesome motorcycle, the Valkyrie, doesn't somehow make them realize that they have one great thing in common, riding motorcycles. Life is short, things are coming at us faster than ever with social media, but maybe we are not quite ready yet, as people, to deal with the information and opinions that others so quickly put out there. I hope to meet some of you later in life, if time allows, between raising families, working, trying to stay healthy, and just trying to survive. But when I do, I will only be talking about motorcycles and life in general. This is the way I live, and I ain't changing now!

Great post Evan.  Never met anyone in the Valkyrie community that I wouldn't ride with or send parts to if they needed them.  I don't get into politics, but I pray for a bunch of people on this board/community.  We can all use it.

It's not only the money, I got the tickets for me an my son.  His first pro game (aside from a preseason game where no "stars" played.

Not all owners caved.  Houston's owner said that they can't let the prisoners run the jail (or something like that) and his whole phucking team took a knee.  Can't fire a whole team.

I doubt it will go away anytime soon,  good luck on selling those tickets for 300 each.  GO Dallas,  my bad!    Grin

I think we all have typed something up say in an email at work (or home) and before clicking send re-read what we wrote and deleted some stuff out that was NOT so nice even though we felt it to be true.  Sometimes honesty gets us into trouble for not being a B.S.er letting stuff be as-is.  Still irks me though when something is WRONG and EVERYONE knows it but no one wants to take responsibility for their actions or try to fix the problem after months and years of bitching about it.  I try to man up if I cause the mistake, but others like to hide it at all costs.    Seems to be human nature unfortunately... tickedoff

Looks like it ain't going away any time soon.

Some people are so sensitive...

-Mike "maybe there's a reason idiom and idiot are real near each other in the dictionary"
They're just looking for a reason to blame somebody for them doing something they were already doing. I'm 61 and my parents always said stuff like "fox guarding the henhouse" and "inmates running the asylum" and in the NFL case everyone knows it isn't to be taken literally. Can't fix stupid, can't stop haters.

Absolutely, and I totally understand. In my case, the Team President and Head Coach both said they sided with the players, so as a rabid Packers fan and stock owner, it was like a kick in the gut or coming home early to find out my fiancé had starting dating again! If the league wasn't so afraid of the players they COULD fire whole teams, but the problem would straighten it's out PDQ if all the players suddenly had Kapernick Wallet Syndrome. We all do what we feel is best, and sometimes we get to ride, too.  cooldude

Well, he's probably thinner now. I'm not missing that finger, but I didn't finish public school in NY, so I may only be able to get to 9 on some days (Nigel's goes to eleven)  Grin
I need to get back out that way before I expire, Jones Beach, Playland, Capital Theater, etc, maybe catch the New Haven into the City and watch for Laura Petrie at the New Rochelle platform. 'course she may be with Jerry, now.
