I know for many forum members it is no big deal... but this weekend I saw a beautiful Honda Rune in Alice's restaurant (Woodside - CA).

I've seen Runes only twice: once in the traffic in the city and once going by in the highway.

It was pretty cool this time to actually being able to inspect one of this beautiful bikes up close. A few photos can be found at:

I got the opportunity to talk to the owner, he bought it about 2-3 years ago with 3K miles and has logged about 8K on it. He rode it from LA to the SF Bay Area and loves the bike.

Sometimes I consider the idea of selling all my bikes (vstrom, I/S and ST1300) to have the cash to buy a Rune.

Love that bike in that color, I don't think I would like those pipes sticking out like that.

I thought the same, even though they look great, it would be pretty bad in case of a drop/fall.

I’ve been following them on eBay for a few years. That is a rare upgraded exhaust. I’ve read that it is louder than stock. Most Runes I’ve seen for sale do not come with this exhaust. Most have very low mileage. Guy that lives by me has it in his living room as a piece of furniture. Removed all fliuds. Prices have been coming down with the new Valkyrie release but still $14-17,000. I’d like one but not sure I’d ride it enough to justify the cost.  Live my 09 Wing and 99 Interstate too much to put a lot of miles on a Rune. Too nice a bike to let it sit around.

Not sure I like either exhaust......the giant Alpshorn or the six pack.... it was always my "sticking" point with that bike....I have had a rune poster on the garage wall since 2001?, as soon as one was available(poster that is). And it began....

Summer of 2015 I stopped for fuel at a Speedway in Pendelton, IN.   A gentleman had pulled up next to me on a Gixer while inside.  Sitting in the shade with an ice tea I hear him call is this your Valkyrie.  I get up to go over.  He was tall at 6   2 or 3 and quite excited about it.  Then he asked me to come next door to his shop as I had to see his.  Being in no hurry I obliged.   It was a nice shop ( checkerboard  racing floor and clean as a whistle )  in where he sold and installed motorcycle tires and had a mobile service that covered Indy, but also as far east as Columbus, OH.  There in his shop was a beautiful black Rune, along with a Honda Matic, and a few other bikes all shined up nice and pretty.  Chet told me the whole story about the Rune and said he would be taking it to the Indy Bikes on the Mall in dowtown Indy in which thousands of bikes participate in every year.  In 2015 that was in conjunction with the Indy Moto GP in which he was headed to when he met me and loved that kind of racing.   Since business takes me through Pendelton at least once a week I would sometimes stop and chat.  He always carried an open handgun on his right side holstered. He had grand plans of hooking up with Walmart and Sam's club auto dept. so bikers could take their bikes there for new tires.  He talked about moving to a better location, and then come cold weather that shop was closed.  I see he still has a website up.  Hope Chet is doing well.

Always liked that color best, and personally love the "out there" pipes because I think the fit the overall excesses of the Rune's design, which I really like, also. I always have a love/hate thing with the Rune because I love the bike, but feel it stole design/tooling funds away from what could have been a nice 2nd Gen Valkyrie (or 3rd Gen counting the IS) that wasn't too far from the original, just a refinement with fuel injection, self-cancelling turns and a few other farkles normally done on a first gen platform based on 5+ years of customer feedback. Instead, Honda just sat on a bike with declining sales and pretty much stopped watering it until it died. They knew the 1800 engine was coming, and instead of the Rune, I would have preferred that Rune development money would have been used to make an 1800 Valk based on the original concept, similar to the second generation Mustangs and 'vettes.
