Anyone ever think of distilling their own moonshine?

This looks like a nice starter still

Not a bad price in my opinion

Yes.
Yes that looks good for the price.
Check you local area for laws and regulations, as well as Fed.

An old shiner told me his secret was to cook the mash grains in an oven before.
He made some of the best local shine I have seen.

Good luck with your project.

"WOW"

great clip from a great movie. one of my all time favorites. Garner and McQueen were perfect for those roles.

before I came across this I wasn't even thinking about it. a friend of mine was talking about how he want to try home brewing beer and I was looking at info on that topic and somewhere along the way I came across this website.

when I saw the photo and read about the still I thought i'd post it here, it looks like a quality product and not too expensive, but I guess some of our friends here on the board my have a little more experience to offer their opinions. it's probably illegal here in NJ.

Already have one. Not that one, but one my cousin and I built. It's only 10 gallon but that is plenty.   Fun stuff to make and even better to drink, IN MODERATION.

What I find interesting is the other items this will produce, especially essential oils.   I have always wanted to make some cedar oil.  Just do not have the time right now.  Hope someone tries this one out and reports back on the shine.

I thought Federal law allowed home made liquor, in limited quantities (specified), and not for sale (they want thier share in taxes).  But I may be wrong, see last link

Check your own state laws.

I've had both home made wine and beer, and it was all......... unpleasant.  I think grandma's blackberry wine was about 80 proof.  Maybe it was brandy.  Whatever it was, I should not have been drinking it in her basement at 12 yo.  Buzzzzzzzzzz, gag, puke.   I didn't tell anyone cause grandma was real good with a big wooden spoon too (as in swinging for the fence).

Home made shine from AL was top notch.  Went down smooth, but then warmed you up like someone plugged you in to 220.  Closest thing I ever had to hallucinogenic alcohol.

You can tell it is the best by simply looking at it???
I feel we are not getting the entire story on this one. I've heard there are other ways to determine the quality of such things.

Been brewing my own beer for years now, and this is not a beer making kit. This is for distilling spirits exclusively. Big difference between distilling and brewing.

yes I know there is a difference between the two. as I was looking up brewing beer and going from one website to another I came across the site for the still. I knew there were folks here who enjoy their adult beverages so I just thought I'd post the link for anyone that may have the interest in having their own still.

as for me doing it, after doing some reading on different mashes I wouldn't know where to begin and an investment like that for me would be silly even though it looks like it's a nice piece of workmanship.

When I was in Jr High school I built a still for a science project.  I ran a batch on the kitchen stove, it worked but tasted like rubbing alcohol.  Making/fermenting the mash was the worst part, some nasty smelling stuff.
