Mann has bought Purolator and the Boss is the same kind of filter medium that they use in the Mercedes, BMW and other cars for the extended change intervals. They had to make a new medium since some cars were blowing up due to the extended drain intervals and the filters not being able to keep the oil clean and not plugging up.

I put this filter on my 1800 and it flows really well.

I think there is one inaccuracy in the video though from memory, the filtering capabilities of the filters is stated wrong I believe.

When I talked to Purolator they said that the filters were less effective instead of more as you went to the Boss. If you even think about it how can a filter that could be used for 15k be as fine as one for 3k which was the problem with the Yellow Pure One. It was only recommended for 3k by Purolator although many used it much more miles. It was more restrictive not less, but the fact that the repeated passes through the filter might make up for the worse first pass results is more than likely the story.

good filters, but much past 5K miles I would change anyways, why chance it, even with synthetic oils?  The claim to fame of Amsoil synthetic oil lasting 25K miles is B.S. since NO OIL FILTER will last that long.

I think the blue one by purolator being mid-range up to 10K miles is the best bang for your buck.  ONLY time I have in past 30+ years of driving gone over 5000 miles oil changes (back in the 80s and 90s recommeneded 3000 mile oil changes) is once on a long trip putting on over 2000 miles driving in near 2 weeks and that was still not over 6000 miles before changing oil.

For some reason my 2014 hyundai sonata 2.4L 4 cylinder GDI engine after 3-4 weeks after changing oil/filter,  the oil is near black again which I find odd.  I think that engine gets oil dirtier much, much quicker and runs dirtier for some reason as well.  I contacted a few Hyundai dealers and they agree the oil is very dark soon after an oil change so MUST change that before 5000 miles is up owners manual I think states 3750 miles for shorter/dirtier-dusty trips and 7500 miles for long range miles, so 5K is a good compromise on conventional oil non-synthetic.  Both  my hyundai vehicles though much after 4000 miles the startup is less smooth vs. when right after a fresh oil change the engines idle much smoother.

I have to change both Hyundai vehicles this weekend before old man winter sets in, if that will EVER come here in WI since near 50 degrees out I still could be riding the cycles and here it is almost Dec. 1st already, very odd.

I'm a 3K guy all around.
Even AMSOIL in the Valk, I like it, when it was Royal Purple, the manufacturers all said 5-7K.
I still did 3. Its my motor. (s)

Well done production and highly informative.  Thank you.

The Micron Rating for Media in Fluid Filters
A micron rating for a fluid filter is a generalized way of indicating the ability of the
filter's media to remove contaminants by the size of particles it is exposed to.
The micron rating does not properly or fully describe either the efficiency or the
contaminant-holding capacity of the filter media.
ENGINE AIR FILTER MEDIA IS
NOT RATED BY MICRON SIZE.
