Our 9 year old silver lab Tucker has not been doing very well the past 2 years. He was full of cancer and this past friday I had him put down. I got home from work and he could hardly stand up. I made the decision it was time. He will be missed, he was a great dog and was a shadow to my wife. The house just does not feel the same without him there. I have 3 other dogs but still it feels empty with him not being there. He was suffering and i hated to see him like that. I'm pretty sure that is the hardest thing i have ever had to do. I'm sure the feeling will slowly disappear and life will go on. It's just hard when you spend so much time with an animal that they become part of your family. My other 3 dogs have been searching the house for him. I know the time is coming for 2 of the other ones, an 11 year old black lab and a 12 year old blue heeler mix. Hopefully they can hold out for a couple more years.

It IS hard to have to put down a loved pet - we have had to put down 2 13-14 year old cats in the last 6 months, both due to health issues. Peace , and know they will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. https://www.rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm

Yep. The feeling will subside with time but you will never forget. And there will likely be a replacement, just not quite the same yet special in their own way. Just remember the joy they brought and what you provided for them.

So hard but so worth it. Dogs are all that is right with the world. Prayers for you and your hound. Until you meet again at rainbow bridge.

Gavin, I know the feeling. Had to do this myself and I know it's tough to do. I have no healing advice, I still feel the loss of my buddy Jake but, I filled the void he left with Bowser.
Once you have a loved pet, it's difficult to be without one. Hopefully, time will allow this pet's loss and the void left to be filled. My condolences to you and your family. Knowing his suffering is over should help. You did the right thing. Some folks can't take this step. I applaud your decision.

I know your pain my friend, bout four years ago I had to put down my rat terrier Spot. She had cancer and was having troubles breathing. I made the decision to end her pain. So I gathered her up the best I could, held her close as we drove to the vets, and held her and talked to her as she they did the deed. I cried like a baby and sometimes still do. I have her collar hanging on my rear view. She’s buried in our backyard. I still get misty eyed sometimes when I think of her and whenever our current dog gets her shots I tear up from the memories of Spot. The days will get better, but there will always be a void where they once were. Just know that you did what was best for them and I’d like to think that they will be there waiting for your return. Prayers and thoughts to you and yours.

Earlier I was putting the recliner down and I said "move tucker". He always crawled under the recliner when the legs were up and I don't know how many times I tried to close him up in it.

I knew this was gonna be a tough one to read and it sure was Real sorry for the loss of what really was an important part of the family Been there, dogs are great even dumb dogs Difference between wife and dog is if you "accidentally" lock em both in the trunk of the car, when you finally get around to opening it the only one that will be happy to see you and wag its tail will be the wife . Not really, it will be the dog Our rescue dog now is dumber than a rock but we still love her

Mine sat right beside the recliner and would raise her head every once and a while for me to pet her.

Very sorry to hear this. My fur child Jade has been gone several years and I still sometimes expect to see her at the door when I get home or beside the bed when I wake up.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your fur baby. I know it must have been a very hard decision to make and I pray that I have your strength to make such a decision if ever the time comes. I know it must hurt a lot, but over time your pain will ease. It won't go away, bit it will definitely ease!
