Finally got it done(still waiting for tail lights-Amazon)
I bought a galvanized utility trailer at Lowes and closed it in.
A lot of time building it but worth it I think:

The framed shell is prime grade pine glued and screwed and the skin is 3/16" clear pine ply good 2 sides....glued and screwed, all firmly glued & scewed to the galvanized trailer.  The arched piece at the back is done that way to keep that big opening from racking. This trailer is more rigid than my Pace Trailer which I can now sell...a lot lighter too at about 750 Lbs compared to the 5X10 Pace at about 950 Lbs. The drop nose shape pushes a lot less air than the 5X10 brick that it replaces as well. The E-Track tie down system that I screwed to the original trailer  inner sides works great as well
That bike is definitely not a "Trailer Queen" but there are times that we head down to Coeur D' Alene Id. for shopping and riding. Tough to get everything we buy on the bike!! I've clocked about 30K on it since I bought it Jan 2016....would have been about 3K more but my Alternator died about 40km from home heading to Whidby Island this past August.(Damn)

Thanks...and Re: the bike color, the reverse red an black is apparantly not very common. Not sure the numbers though. I was sold on it the minute I first saw it back in 2016...I never did a test ride(January in the great white north)just paid the guy and trailered it home.

BTW...the day after I took these lastest pics...last Saturday... I hopped on the bike and went for a short ride into town...it got to over 60 degrees that day...amazing weather we've been getting here in the Calgary area for a couple weeks as you can see from the pictures...any way,  got into town and picked up a few items at Lowes and headed for home. I got to a 4-way stop and as I proceeded through the stop a woman on my right ran the stop. I swirved and braked at the same time to avoid a collision and dropped the bike. All 4 crash guards are damaged now and I am pretty sore all over. I guess when the bike went down the tires grabbed and flipped it over on the opposite side damaging all 4 crash bars...nothing else got damaged.

Looks really professional (and probably much better built than commercial ones)!

Your valkyrie also looks pretty awesome! (is it a custom color?).

Very nice but why!???    ???

Honestly I do understand that our friends further north need to sometime do that.  This past summer I had to trailer my bike to InZane due to my wife's travel restrictions.  I felt like everyone who passed us was looking over at me and wondering what on earth are you doing?

It's a good looking trailer.  Looks better than a lot, if not most, professionally built.

Hopefully Motomama won't have any future travel restrictions. But if so, don't let anybody pass you.  Smiley

Thanks...a lot of time went into design on Sketchup before the tools came out.
Why...#1-because I looked around a lot  for something that was somewhat fuel efficient. My Pace 5X10 Cargo Trailer past about 50mph is a real drag. This one is about 6" lower but about 3" wider and about 200lbs lighter. I did a couple test runs with it and for sure there is less drag at higher speed. Total headroom inside is only 1 1/2" lower than the Pace at 64" but entrance headroom is about 2" more.
Why...#2-because sometimes we like to head South in the winter and from between here and many destinations there are high passes that are subject to winter in early fall and late into spring. I have been through snow/ice storms in places like Butte Montana as late as the end of May and as early as late August.  I have seen plenty of riders hunkered down at service stations waiting out icy conditions and worse...stranded under overpasses. My wife and I don't need that kind of experience. I have logged about 30 thousand kms in the last 2 years so I certainly don't trailer everywhere!!

Willow,
I generally agree with you, however in this case I do not.

If you looked around the parking lot at the last Inzane (and future one's) you could not help but notice numerous trailers parked in the lot. There are a lot of reasons for this. The number ONE is that our membership is aging.

Many members that I have talked to openly admit that after riding two or three days to get to Inzane, they need to take time off from riding after getting there, then they miss some of the great local riding.

I love riding, but I also know my limitations. I for one could not handle a ride of several days without issues, Plus, in our case, my wife broke her tailbone years ago and and can not ride for more than an hour or so at a time. Our answer is to trailer, or not go.

I am more than willing to take some of the harassment (mostly in jest) from my fellow Valkyrie family just to be able to be there and be able to enjoy the rides in the locations they are held. I know there are other members that have significant others that do not enjoy long rides, they have also made the choice to be there, but want to do so with their wives.

So while you are most definitely entitled to your opinion, I think the macho days of old have long past. The Valkyrie group is a great bunch of people, (a family of sorts)  let's just enjoy the fact that they still want to get together after all these years.

Jim

Why? Because everyone has different needs and different situations. I broke 3 vertebrae and a clavicle in'74 and even though I was lucky enough to heal and get a few 100k miles in during subsequent years, 100 miles in the Valk seat feels like 500 now, and 1000 on the Fat Bob. If I want to ride at Sturgis, I can't ride TO Stugis. Or for the most part even 150 miles to a 31' trailer "up north" where Vicki & I like to spend Summer weekends. Not counting logistics like bringing a 3' cooler full of frozen food without pulling a trailer, I don't want to spend the first hour or two after arriving laying flat on my back. Since I already made a ramp/winch arrangement for my van to transport the golf cart up in the Spring and home in the Fall, I cut up my Condor chock and made a loader for a bike. The Valk won't fit, but I can pop the fairing & QD passenger backrest off my Fat Bob and have a bike available for cruising the area. If people want to judge me as I tool down the road on a beautiful day with the bike cooped up in a van, whatever. I'll try not to judge them for being "special".

The Tail Lights are 15" LED Tail/Brake Light Bars Mounted Verticle next to the doors about mid way up...same surface the hinges are mounted to. The License Plate Light will be mounted just above the lower left hinge with the Plate mounted on the door just above that hinge.
I used a premium exterior semigloss acrylic paint applied with a 1/4" short nap roller to get a nice fine pebble effect...about 4 coats each color, five coats on the top. Under the black is a spray on rocker guard for extra protection. I used the same paint on my house...fantastic stuff...after 4 years it still shows no sign of degrading.

You can look at a Sketchup 3D Rendering of the trailer here on Chrome:
Not sure if other browsers will work.
https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/cefbfcba-a1a8-47fe-a61e-9f4f60b0435a/5X9-Bike-Trailer

When the page opens just click on the 3D Model Icon that appears when you put the cursor over the trailer and let it render for a bit. When it reappears just drag it around with your cursor and use the scroll wheel to zoom in or out. There are 9 models so feel free to  browse other ones if you like.
The open rafter render is the house you see in the trailer pictures that I posted...others are homes I have done design work on etc.

It was a tongue in cheek question guys.   Wink   I think good natured ribbing was already mentioned.

If you or I feel the need to justify what we choose ...  Smiley  I don't.  I don't think you do either.
