Losing my Kmart just down the road, where I get my opioids. I wonder if I get any severance?
Sears in Cookeville, Tenn. (< see what I did there?) is closing but not on the list. They already sold off Craftsman tools to Stanley, mostly China crap now anyways.
MAGA when Sears had catalogs and Remington 870's. Penneys had 870's on sale and Sears would match their ad.
I am a 6 volt guy in a 12 volt world. Cool

Sears in Mt. Vernon, Illinois closed some years ago. Yesterday's newspaper reported K-mart in Mt. Vernon is going to close now.

Sears already closed by me.
Sucks because that's where I bought all my handtools and small power tools.
Craftsman.  They would replace the tool for the same, or current item if they discontinued the one being exchanged, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.  No need to even show receipt.
Now K-Mart is the only Craftsman dealer I know of and their selection sucks, can't but individual sockets, and staff is never any help.

When I was still driving big truck Sears went from being O K to haul for-plenty of time to git to the store and catch a nap before delivery to-can you make a 7 hour roll in 3 hours?  uglystupid2 And the the store mgr gittin pissy cuz I wasn't there on time!  Lips Sealed And they went from paying me $50.00 a stop to help unload to git yer ass in here and help for free!  crazy2 And I remember one fiasco that still lives in my memory. Loaded out of a Chicago suburb to an independent Sears store. I picked up a sealed trailer-NO way for me to check the load or how it's loaded. Believe it was in Nebraska and when I lined up to back in the store owner broke the seal. A rather large lawn tractor was loaded acroos the width of my trailer by the lawn tractors length. All well and good-cept for the washer and dryer they loaded on the flimsy 1 by that made up-well not a crate but wood and paper covering for what used to be a new lawn tractor. The customer who ordered the lawn tractor was standing there when I opened the doors of the trailer!  Lips Sealed Couple hundred miles of bouncin down the highway from bout chi town to nowheresville Ne. did NOT do the tractor or that washer dryer set-two individual pieces-any good what so ever!  tickedoff RIDE SAFE.

Our closest K-Mart closed a year or 2 ago. Only went there once.

Our closest Sears isn't too far from there  - still hanging in there. Haven't been to that mall much less Sears in 3-4 years.

I used to work at the Kmart at 15 Mile and Livernois in Troy MI...ir was only 3.5 miles from world headquarters. Worked with a great bunch of folks...my last job before I joined the Navy and then worked at the store in Grayling MI after I got out, while I was going to school to get my A&P cert to work on aircraft.

our closest Sears is on the chopping block in the Ocean County Mall, Toms River, NJ. It was an original anchor store from the time the mall opened in the mid '70's. I just strolled through it before Christmas and it was like a ghost town, tons of stuff but hardly anyone around and the tool section was just about non existent. As a coincidence I saw a TV commercial (just before Christmas) for ACE Hardware selling Craftsman tools.

We have a K-Mart here in town which has also been an anchor store for a nice plaza mall also since the mid-'70's and since Walmart moved in several years ago it too has been a virtual ghost town. Tons of good stuff inside but hardly seems anyone goes there. That plaza had another anchor store in it which left a few years ago, a food store called Pathmark, which could not sustain itself after a new Shop-rite opened close by and has been sitting empty with shelving and check out lanes just waiting for patrons.

Stanley tools bought Craftsman tools as part of a selloff by Sears. They are supposed to build a new factory in the U.S. to manufacture.
I buy older Craftsman at flea markets, swap meets and pawn shops when I find them in excellent condition. If they are not marked U.S.A. they are not made here. If it is not marked, it's Chinese.
Ace Hardware has been selling the Chinese crap almost as long a Kmart.
The old, old, old wrenches & sockets are much thinner and are made of better metal. As time went, they were made heavier to make up the poorer strength.

We lost our Sears 2-3 years ago.  It was one of the corner stores in our largest mall.  Now replaced with a Scheels store, so not so bad.

I do miss my primary source of Craftsman tools, although I believe I have what I need.  Still have 95% of the complete set I purchased in 1965...
