I'm only three months away from my 90th birthday and I truly appreciate the comments made by Bruce.

My wife died in 2002. I was at a loss for two years. One day after driving to a state park, it seemed like the curtain lifted some.  After that, the loss was still remembered, and still is today, but it became more bearable.

I had four siblings, all sisters.  The last one left this earth three years ago.  She was partly instrumental in me riding motorcycles. Her passing was hard to take and still is.

Our chapter of the Korean War Vets has lost four members in the last five years and serious medical problems are cropping up among the rest.  Our chapter is called "The Quiet Warriors" and, in the not too distant future, the name will become apt for another reason, as all of us are in our late 80's or older.

Among all of these losses, I don't give much thought as to why we are here.  I don't give it thought as to why I'm approaching 90 while many friends have gone (I can think of RJ , he said that he would 'catch up to me" but never did, Bless him)

What I do give thought to is that I have a family who reminds me why I am here. I have a church family who always ask how I am doing. I have friends in local government who do the same. What more do I need?  Nothing! I live in the present. I live in an environment that I've helped create and I am better for it.  I do most certainly wish that I could associate with my friends here by riding with them but that is not to be and that is part of life. We find that it is part of life that we will reach a point where we no longer can do what we want to do.

For me, I think about two things. I believe that I will have eternal life when I pass because of Christ.

The other thing is I hope that i will leave some kind of legacy and that the number of persons attending my passing (Celebration of Life) will not depend on what the weather is like that day. Smiley

Wayne, I believe I turn 80 the same month you turn 90. I also find it truly amazing, especially following my major heart attack in 2012, that I'm still here when I think of many good friends that have already gone before me. Since I can't get out much due to responsibilities at home, I don't have a circle of friends to spend time with, just a couple to chat with on the phone. I also have the good folks at church that always ask about our welfare, but beyond that....nothing. I had a good example to follow in my father, he cared for and outlived two wives. I only hope I can do as much.

I pray daily for good health..."please don't let me get sick while caring for Rita."  So far, so good!  cooldude

Sure wish I could plan on being there for your "big bash" but doesn't really look promising.

Contrary to my board handle when I start thinkin of myself being old or older-I look at you two-Wayne and John-and I just KNOW I have aways to go yet-good LORD willin and the crik she no rise!  2funny There ARE some mornings that some of my related systems don't wanna fall in line and start functioning as they should.  Roll Eyes I met R J back in 15 I believe and John in 14 I believe and Wayne I'm thinkin back in 13. Stopped in 16 on the way to W V and Wayne came out for a glass of iced tea with Tommy Tailgate Ross and Myself. We "just happened" to be fairly close to Wayne's casa when we called!  coolsmiley Besides you two who I call Friends there are a couple other Friends here that have me at a disadvantage in the age department!  Roll Eyes I try also to live in the day that has been presented to me. My Church Family in Missouri when I miss a Sunday the following Sunday I duz git a LOT of questions on the state of my health!  2funny Least ways at this point in time I can answer those questions. One of these days someone who knew me will say something to the effect of-he lived longer than a lot of us thought he would!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

John and Dennis.

John, I sure know what you mean. When I was a caregiver for my wife, I  also prayed that i wouldn't get sick.

Dennis, you and your brother gave me a boost when you looked me up when you were passing through. Actually, it took quite a bit of 'looking up' before we found each other, Wink

My 'Bash' for lack of a better word is tentatively set for Saturday, April 21, 2018. The family will be getting together soon to work it out. I had originally planned on an open invitation but ,unfortunately, that won't work out well for planning.  Mad6Gun, Psychotic Bovine, myself, and my daughter, Cheri, will have to decide who to invite and there will be some who will have been passed over here and among my other acquaintances. I will say that you, John, and you, Dennis and your brother are on the list.
