Chelsea Manning files to run for US Senate in Maryland

Chelsea Manning, a former Army private jailed for passing government documents onto WikiLeaks, has filed to run for the U.S. Senate in Maryland.
Manning is set to run as a Democrat in the upcoming November elections, which puts her up against Sen. Ben Cardin, according to the filings first reported by the Washington Post.

Believe me Maryland should already be a joke or at least a punch line
We are blessed at the moment with a  Rep. Gov at the helm for now and doing a great job.

If you think about it, Chelsea would represent the Democratic Party well. I’m sure the DNC will be right there with her/him/it, you know we get to chose our gender now.

Doesn't a Senator need to hold a security clearance?? With it's conviction and criminal record It can't get a security clearance.

Nope, not really... At least not like how you and I would have to get a clearance...

For all the money and effort spent on surgery he looks very much like a long haired male wearing makeup.

Adam's apple.  With all the surgery executed in order to make a man look as if he were a woman why don't they address the apple?

Probably hasn't saved the money for the surgery yet, but that's something they do address...

I have not done any research (and I'm not going to), but I seem to recall the Zero commuted time off his sentence, but did not pardon him.  So he remains with multiple felony convictions.  So he can still serve?

The answer is partially yes, as nothing in the Constitution prohibits convicted felons from serving (if elected).  However, State laws are also relevant, as they can prevent what the constitution does not (and some do for both State and Fed offices).  I dunno about MD, but...

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/politics/bs-md-felons-voting-20160209-story.html

Interestingly, even if a convicted felon were to run and win, the House or Senate could then vote to censure and expel.

As if Sodom on the Potomac, needs a new ring for their circus.

Another interesting question would be whether the dem's would (put their money where their mouth is and) fund/support his campaign.  My guess is... not if they have a better candidate.

Interesting twist to this... It appears that Chelsea Manning is still technically active duty, and must stay that way while he appeals his original conviction.

Thus, with the prohibition on active duty military personnel from being involved in politics, his senate run is technically illegal...

(Yeah, it's Daily Caller, dispute the content, not the source)

http://dailycaller.com/2018/01/21/chelsea-manning-senate-run-illegal/

Also note some of his more interesting policy positions:

--Close all prisons
--Free healthcare for all
--No borders, let anyone come in who wants to

His GCM sentence must have included a punitive discharge (DD or BCD), but military authorities never execute the discharge while a service member remains in confinement, so they remain subject to the UCMJ, and to all lawful orders of the military and jailors.  So when the Zero commuted his sentence, I guess it commuted the discharge too (I dunno).

Still on active duty because of the pendency of an appeal of the original court martial convictions; the commutation of the sentence, did nothing regarding the underlying convictions (it was not a pardon).

So, he is or is about to be in violation of the Hatch Act.

Note to the Army.... his appeal should be expedited.

I recently had a MAJOR proud daddy moment. A while back I got a t-shirt with one of the great quotes from Ben Shapiro on it:

My 15 year old high school attending daughter saw me wearing the shirt, and BEGGED to be allowed to wear it to school. It seems she has one class full of (Her words) stupid feminazi idiots that go on and on about feelings and fairness...

She wore the shirt. They don't talk to her any more in that class.
(Of course, they didn't talk to her a lot before that either.)

It's great to be smart and be able to argue effectively..... but sometimes in a HS like environment, with a lot of feminazis around (and teachers who probably think just like they do) it might also be smart for her to keep a low profile (and have access to a big stick).

Kids (and all humans) can be pretty cruel (and sometimes downright dangerous).

Besides, she probably has as much chance of converting libs and PC fanatics, as we do.

In this case she just wanted them to leave her alone, so..... mission accomplished!

And don't forget, even with things softening in the last generation, this is still The Republic of Texas... Even the teachers are mostly still on the sane side...

...mostly...

I've met that particular 15-year-old, and somehow I have a tough time imagining her being bullied.  It's not that she's scary (far from it), but that she's irrepressible, in a delightful way!

I haven't had the pleasure.

I never had kids.

But I worry about them in today's schools (and world).

I'm not as old as dirt (yet), but did attend an elementary with 5th and 6th in the same classroom.

The current plan (if they ever open registration *Grumble grumble*) is for her to accompany me to Roanoke this summer, hopefully you'll be able to make it and you can meet her too...

She's..... an interesting character, to say the least... Wink

She has been bullied in the past, and still some now, but she's learned to stand up for herself quite well.

Well, I'm planning to be there (if my mom is doing OK), so I'll be happy to meet her.... and you too.

I once tried to counsel my only niece (entering college) on the finer points of punching/poking eyes, throats, and nuts (without mercy), and how to use a short knife (and gave her a good one), and she said I was upsetting her and left the room.

Years later, she said she understood.  But not then.

Kali wouldn't say you're upsetting her, I suspect...

She was 12 in these pics (I apologize, pretty sure you've seen at least some of these before, proud daddy syndrome and all...)

And she loves sharp pointy things and other items of defense as well...

Not only that - but both my 5th and 6th grades were in that class with that teacher - they put the smart kids there and the rest went to the "regular" classes.

You done good, Serk! Your daughter will find a better class of people to talk with, starting, obviously, with you... The real ones just do it, no need to pontificate about it...
