Neither is my primary care doctor. Everything is normal except:
A1c=8.5
HDL=33, Must be hereditary 'cuz my whole life it's been low. My wife runs in the 80's & 90's.
Glucose=201, Never been that high, wondering if stress affects some of these readings.
PSA=5.12, By coincidence I had an appt. with my urologist Monday, he did the finger wave and said it's absolutely normal but wants to do the 4K blood test since that's a 2 point jump over the last test two years ago. The 4K is highly accurate in determining if any cancer is present in the prostate. I won't know anything until next month due to tight scheduling, but he says not to worry about it. Yeah....right!

Total cholesterol is 114, LDL is 81, seems everything looks great except the stuff listed. My weight has actually dropped slightly but hasn't helped any. One thing I'm sure affects those readings.....lack of exercise. With my wife finally getting to the point she's on hospice here at home it has restricted my time away from home even more, meaning limited possibilities to either go to the gym(used to go at least 2x week, often more) or doing some bike riding. If any of our doctor members have some suggestions, I'd sure appreciate it. Although the diet isn't pure relative to sweet and starchy stuff, it's not overloaded with that. It's fairly healthy, not rich stuff....mainly because my wife can't eat it either and I fix all the meals. Another possibility....I'm closing in on 80 in less than two months. I guess things just don't click like they did even 20 yrs. ago.  Sad

Strangely enough, I feel great but do get kinda tired some days with all the work and caring around here. It never stops.

your total cholesterol is so low your HDL is fine....the PSA thing has a lot of controversy especially at age 80....you sugar is up some but several oral meds are cheap and can get your BS down...there is some interesting research on "NR supplement"--the mice studies are amazing but no human data yet

My Dr. freaked out on my A1C being that high, but my glucose is almost never that high.

It's been said - watch what you eat (avoid processed foods -especially flour and sugar products), and your Dr should put you on some orals meds (I'm on metformin and Glimepiride for sugar control) and start exercising more, or you'll be joining your wife sooner than you want.

Getting my glucose under control did wonders for my temperament.

My winter help is the treadmill. Ya, it's boring but I have a radio in the room and a TV. I watch hunting shows or listen to the radio. You also get to do it in home, at your pace, and when you have 20 minutes to devote to it daily. When I'm done I don't just go set down. I try to keep moving and not set on my ass. Feel like I just wasted my time on the treadmill if I do. My neighbor swears by his exercise bike. To each his own, but I just have to keep moving. Good luck.

Awhile back I had a false positive on the PSA test. I won't have it done anymore.  Not a problem since I had the ole prostate whittled on last June.  A BIG hunk taken out, negative for cancer and now I'm peeing like a 20 year old.  Just had an ultrasound endoscopy and biopsy for a nodule in my stomach, also negative.  Had tests for food allergy, also negative. I've had three pages of lab work done at the VA with a few items out of spec but not by much. I was told to quit taking NSAIDS and THAT is the worst, the ole arthritis is really kicking in. Knees, ankles, hands, all are objecting which also affects my sleep.
One big advantage, colonoscopies not needed at my age any more.

Not saying this to 'top you' John, just sayin' things start piling on and I'm feeling it at close to 90.  Exercise is the one thing that keeps me going. I do know that being a caregiver takes a lot out of you and i sincerely hope that you'll keep going for Rita. Prayers for both of you, John.

I did some reading online re. blood sugar and sorta answered by own question; short answer.....stress will increase the blood sugar. All the various articles explained the reasons behind it. For quick exercise I might be able to sneak in a couple trips around the streets that encircle the neighborhood, that would give me at least four miles and I'd be just a few minutes from home at all times.

Went back and looked at the results again. Realized my LDL=63, non-HDL cholesterol=81, the chol/hdlc ratio=3.5, triglycerides=92. One item was tagged as high; MCH=33.7.....have no idea what MCH is but if 33.7 is considered high it must be kinda special. Guess I'll find out my next visit with the primary, I know he's going to make all kinds of suggestions.....none of which I'll like and may/may not go along with....which he knows already. Been my dr. for close to 30 yrs. so has a good history, I keep telling him "man can't live on cardboard and water" when talking about sugars in general. He thinks I don't take him serious, can't imagine why!   Grin

MCH is "Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin" which is one of the calculated erythrocyte indices on a complete blood count (CBC).  Most doctors don't even look at those results and a nurse couldn't even tell you what they mean.  Talk to a medical technologist in the clinical hematology laboratory next time you visit one for your testing; they'll be able to explain it to you in layman's terms.  ???

Stress will impact your glucose level, whether it is physical (being sick counts) or mental. I find that when I have a cold , flu , or some upper respitory infection, my glucose level is higher than normal. You need to take care of yourself so you can take care of your wife.

More on MCH:

https://www.healthtestingcenters.com/what-does-high-mch-blood-test-result-mean

Yours was 33.7.  This article says MCH levels over 34 pg are generally considered abnormally high.  MCH levels below 26 pg are considered abnormally low.

This article says 33 is the high cutoff (and would put you only .7 high).  https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318192.php

I'll bet it's a non issue.  Go to the medicine chest and take a folic acid.

From the first article:  This condition (high MCH) can be caused by deficient levels of vitamin B-12 or folic acid in the body; nutrients found in foods like fish, liver, green leafy vegetables and fortified cereals.
