It took twenty years, but the USA women's hockey team brought home a gold medal by defeating their Canadian opponents in the final game, winning the shootout after a 2-2 regulation/overtime tie. They had to come back in the third period to force overtime against a team that hadn't lost a gold medal game for the past four olympiads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRmZUNO4Y5sTheir victory celebration included many players honoring their country. All standing and singing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbhjqAm2tSUOur girls, yeah!!

Yes, a less than honorable display of sportsmanship from one player, but the rest of her teammates did accept their medals with sadness but also with dignity as the olympic creed states: "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well." That player will catch an earful from the Canadian staff, you can bet on that, and she'll probably regret it after some time passes.

Larocque's unsportsmanlike behaviour isn't going to play well here.
Congratulations Team USA for a well-deserved gold medal!

Don’t be too hard on her, we’ve all done things we later regretted. After all, it’s just a game. Rams

Yeah, not the classiest attitude. I remember being annoyed at the Swedish player who threw his medal into the crowd at the World Junior Hockey tournament. This isn’t as bad, but not exactly losing with dignity.
But I do sorta understand...in hockey tournaments, you win a gold or a bronze, you lose the silver.
Always a great rivalry between the Canadian and US women. It’s good for the sport for other teams to win it occasionally. Would be nice if the rest of the world could get their women’s programs up to speed so it would be a true tournament and not just Can/US every year.
Congrats to the US girls.

I love the Olympics!
Mostly young incredible athletes at the top of thier game. And new stars are born, with nothing more than fame for 5 minutes and a lifetime of noteriety in there hometown for most.
I think most Canadians can take the Women’s Hockey losing . . . but the Men’s Curling losing to the Americans in the semifinals was a shock! Ouch!
Russians are struggling mightily when they were forced to only bring clean athletes.
And the Norwigens are kicking butt!

I missed watching last night. But I read a story about a figure skater performing to AC/DC music. I'd love to watch it, but can't find it anywhere.

Yah, Trump was right again. It was a short while ago he stated why do we not seek to migrate more Norwegians. I would start with their nordic and alpine and jumping skiers, speed skaters, snowboarders. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/feb/22/norway-winter-olympics-success

Thanks Carl I enjoyed that. Good thing I’m not a figure skating judge, I’d have given her a “10”

We’ve won the most medals ever. But nothing in curling. Lost to the Americans in womens hockey(ok...not a shock...Americans have been a great team for years)...but to lose in men’s hockey to Germany... It’s all over. I can handle being a laughing stock around the world because of our idiot PM...but this hurts.

I used to be able to skate like that. Not that long or well controlled though; but I would do all sorts of wild maneuvers just before I fell on my ass. Growing up skating on Lake Erie helped train me on how to fall without getting hurt (as much), and has come in handy on falling off (and with) motorcycles. And hockey sticks were not just for shooting pucks, they were like a crutch on ice. And now we read a Russian curler has been caught doping. Who knew that curling (gently laying down the rock at very low speed) required performance enhancing drugs. Curling..... think bowling, on ice (with lots of yelling and sweeping).

That draw would have been right on the button if they had yelled more.

And where before you opponent gets his turn, you get to put pins on the lane in his way.
