"When You're Dead, Your Bank Account Goes to Zero"

Livin' Better Side of The Great Divide

« on: February 24, 2018, 11:27:33 AM »

The men's squad in curling took the gold medal for the first time in their history of olympic competition, besting Sweden.  They were in 7th place earlier in the standings (losing four of six matches) and came roaring back to take it all; Sweden conceded the final match when they had no chance of making up the difference in scores.
Curling is like chess on ice with yoga-like serving/sliding/delivery of a big ol' polished granite stone.
Long matches and precise strategy...and yelling...and beer...and whiskey from what I hear.
Four Minnesotans and one from Wisconsin..."eh and oot".

No Super Bowl celebration could top that...I guess it's how they roll in the great white north come February!

Congratulations to those guys; they are as much athletes as anyone bustin' their butts out there.

Far more of a sport than watching someone do stupid tricks on skates or skies and have some "panel of experts" arbitrarily decide who is the winner.
If it can't be measured, timed, or counted as a score, why is it even considered a competition?
Races and measured events are sports, the rest are just beauty/popularity contest on skates and skis.
