Dick's Sporting Goods Inc on Wednesday said it was permanently curbing certain gun sales at all of its stores in the wake of the recent massacre at a high school in Florida that has re-ignited a fierce debate over gun control in America.

In an interview with ABC News, Dick's CEO Ed Stack said the company would no longer sell assault-style firearms or high-capacity magazines, and would not sell any guns to those under age 21. (violation of Constitution and Federal law).

"We're taking these guns out of all of our stores permanently," Stack said, adding that he was prepared for any potential backlash toward the business.

They haven't seen any of my money since they pulled the same stunt back in 2012/2013...

I as well have stopped buying there along time ago. If a wall mart doesn't sell ammo or guns I will not shop there.

Dick's, the most appropriately named sporting goods store.

The last time I was in there, 3 or 4 years ago, was the last time I was in there.

Turn it into a soccer shop guys.

I haven't been there for years, but one time I was nosing around the sporting goods counter and they had 500 rd. bricks of Winchester 22LR on the shelf with $0.99 price below it.  I asked the clerk if the price was correct, he looked it up and said yes.  I said i'll take all you have.  That was before they started limiting sales.  Walked out with 5000 rds for 10 bucks.

I doubt Dick's sells many guns of any kind due to the high prices they charge on just about everything.
Their are plenty of options of God fearing and second amendment protecting mom and pop shops that sell for much cheaper and know what they are talking about.  Another option here in the midwest for some really great discount prices are Rural Kings.   The one in our country seat, Greenville, OH always has a crowd around the gun section.

Don't be a dick,  don't shop at Dicks.

A Wal Mart or all of them? Not shopping at just one but shopping at others has no effect at all. A gas company may profit if you are driving further.

I was perusing that very story with my mornin coffee. While the coffee is generally good my stomach twisted into a knot over this story. dicks also called for a ban on "assault style rifles"!  :uglystupid2:I attribute this saying here to one of my favorite authors-W E B Griffin. If the fed or state or county or city or town do in FACT ban a weapon-here come what W E B wrote paraphrased-the camels nose will indeed be under and in the tent flap. knee jerk fed talkin here-well we got rid of assault rifles lets go after semi auto hand guns and then we will go after revolvers and then we will go after any shotguns over 4/10 then we will go after any knives over 1 inch long then we will go after rocks over 1/2 inch in diameter and then we will go after scary lookin people and then!  Evil Believe the term I are lookin fer be Slippery Slope!  uglystupid2 DUMB ASSES.

Interesting idea... I wonder if it's even LEGAL for them to deny sales to those of legal age and yet under 21 that pass their NICS check. Isn't that age discrimination? FFLs are given SOME latitude to deny a sale if they suspect something illegal is happening, but they're not given blanket immunity from discrimination lawsuits. If someone meets the legal requirements, and they suspect nothing illegal is involved with the transaction, do they have to bake the cake, er, I mean sell the gun?

Does anyone actually still do business with them now? They were one of the worst profiteers during the great ammo shortage of 20bama.

I agree with being unhappy with Dick's. I never shop there either. BUT: All companies have the right to refuse service to anyone they want to. Not selling to those under 21 is not a violation of fed law. It's just the owners prerogative.

I agree that it shouldn't be, but tell that to the bakers that didn't wanna bake a certain type of cake.

show me in the Constitution or in federal law it says someone “ must” sell anything, including guns, to anyone of any age.

Haven't been in one of "Dick's" stores in over a decade and have no plan on doing so.

I could care less what they do, or do not, sell.

What bothers me is a corporation's president going on national morning television to announce the ban, ultimately using the latest tragedy to promote his company.

There are other ways to stop selling a product, you stop carrying it and stop selling it.

Going on GMA to "announce" it,  is promotion and promotion only.

Shame on them, "Dicks" can K.M.A.!

I really don't know why everyone is getting so upset with Dicks. I really don't think they sell much for guns and ammo. They are kinda high and I've never bought anything from them.  It's the same with the Ailines .do any of you use a NRA discount to fly ? I really don't think so. I think the Airlines offered that discount because 1 in a million would use it.

although I have only bought a few things in my life at Dicks Sporting Goods,  if I still see a sale there (once at most every few years), I will still shop there for the sale only.   Like said, most is overpriced there I think so do not go out of my way to shop there at all.

The move at Dick's is probably about large stockholders.  Many mutual funds and institutional investors only invest in companies fitting their definition of "socially responsible".  Companies associated with child labor, tobacco, and casinos are often avoided by these big investors.  Some big investors will feel that selling weapons to 18 year-olds is against their values.

The CEO of Dick's doesn't want a stock selloff, he wants to keep the stock attractive to as many big investors as possible.  Not everyone has the same ideas on what is socially responsible.  That does not matter, Dick's decision was about money.

I respectful disagree with you. The AR15 is a popular rifle. Depending how its up fitted they can cost from $600 to $2000 bucks. It's not about money. If it was, they would be stupid as a business NOT to take advantage of this. But they removed the AR type rifles from their shelves after Sandy Hook. So to say so now is just a political statement.

The companies that removed NRA discounts could have done so quietly and no one would have known until they asked for it BUT they chose to make it public. Thus making it a political statement. I will not do business with a company that in effect blames milions of law abiding American citizens for  the violence perpetrated by some waco.

Not long ago the CEO of Camping World said in a statement that Conservatives are not welcome in his stores. They bought out Gander Mountain just prior to that. I went into Gander many times for ammo, targets and clay pigeons. I even bought my granddaughters Cricket rifle there. I was disappointed when I heard they were closing. When I heard they would reopen under a new name I was excited that is until this jackarse opened his mouth. This guy must of forgot that most of the guns bought in this country are bought by conservatives. But you know what. This "conservative" doesn't go where I am not welcome.
