I agree with being unhappy with Dick's. I never shop there either. BUT: All companies have the right to refuse service to anyone they want to. Not selling to those under 21 is not a violation of fed law. It's just the owners prerogative.

I agree that it shouldn't be, but tell that to the bakers that didn't wanna bake a certain type of cake.

Dont'cha just love double standards?
Been persecuted quite a bit lately; how do we get gun owners/enthusiasts named as a protected class?

I am curious about this.  Could a liquor store make a policy to not sell alcohol to someone under 25?

Reason magazine did a brief analysis, and it looks like it's legal at a federal level, but about a third of the states have state or local level laws banning age discrimination...

Had a gent come in to where I work tonight.   He was asking if we did things like where he worked as in matching prices and such.

Told him what my store's policies were and continued to assist him with his automotive needs.
At check out, he told me he was a manager at Dick's Sporting Goods.

I looked him directly in the eye and said, Just so you know, I'm boycotting Dick's.
But then followed up with, I'm not asking you your position on the issue but thought it only fair that I told you so you can relay it up the ladder.

He said, thanks for not taking it out on me personally.   It's a corporate thing and we in the store have no say in it.   He continued, "we have been hearing this a lot".

He said he didn't think slowed sales would change the policy because upper management had decided to dig in and hold their ground because they think it will eventually blow over and they will be on the leading edge of the issue.

It was a polite and adult conversation.   He left knowing how I felt about it.   I didn't ask his opinion, I figure if he wanted me to know, he would have told me.

Well I hope he not only Wins in court-NO hush hush settlement-but I want the settlement to REALLY REALLY HURT both businesses. Shuttering either one-dicks hopefully-have zero idea what it would take for a gigantic bite outa wally wurlds backside but enough money outa their coffers to get the attention of other retailers contemplating similar actions. Unless/Until either fed or state legislation changes current laws. Taking away a ginormous chunk of money should have the desired effect. Lotsa and lotsa of zeroes in That check!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.
