I know this has been discussed in the past, and general consensus has been to stick with OEM, but I would really like to find a high(er) quality, and perhaps more modern looking mirror.  Is there anything available aftermarket, or perhaps from a late model bike worth considering?

I have VTX mirrors on my IS, I really like the look and you know they are high quality since they are made by Mother Honda.

On one bike, I run Yamaha teardrop mirrors.  They came on the bike, and I don't know if they are OE or aftermarket (all look the same).  They are probably just a bit smaller in total size (rounding off the Honda square corners), but about the same in function.  What I really like about them is the arms are turned around crooked, and go straight up, and not out.  They work well for me as I am not tall, but their position is high enough, I am not looking at part of my shoulder.

The problem with most aftermarket mirrors, besides all the goofy shaped and tiny ones (which are all blow and no show), is that 1) adjustment is often very limited, and 2) they won't stay put.  Using Harley or other mirrors that require metric adapters at the mount, always and forever swing loose, and cranking on the wrench eventually strips out aluminum threads.  

I had several sets of Kuryakyn large magnum mirrors, on both short and long arms (with convex, not flat glass), and they are beautiful mirrors, but the metric adapters would never hold for long, and it was a real problem getting them set exactly where I needed them to see behind me (adjustment is very limited, so you end up having to change how they mount to the handlbar, not just move the mirror on it's pivot).  Threads started stripping and I used plumbers tape for awhile, and now they all sit in my parts bin, and I put the OEs back on.  I do not like how OEs look (plane jane) but I sure like how they work.  Note my Yamaha mirrors always work too, but the arms are turned around, so they go straight up from the bar.

Most taller guys need taller mirrors, not wider ones.  This is an arm length issue, not a mirror issue, except most all OE mirrors, it's a complete unit.  You cannot stick longer arms on, and many with a bend make them too wide, not taller.  Wider may let you see around yourself, but you are looking too far away from the road to use them.  Taller lets you see over your shoulder, not through it, but your eyes don't have to move clear out to the side to look at them.  And BTW, if you haven't figured this out, taller handlebar risers helps with this issue.

I've always found it instructive that of the many beautifully tricked out Valks you can find at Inzane and elsewhere, most guys are still running the OE mirrors.  It's not because they look good, it's because they work good.  IMHO

And you know the old story; returning parts you installed with even the slightest tool marks are not accepted, yet how can you know if something will work for you without bolting them up and riding around with them a bit?

Well if they are Hondas, you can bet they are better quality than most aftermarket.

whatever you do do not get aftermarket EMGO mfg. brand, they are junk and the mirror itself vibrates cannot see out of all distorted when vibrating.

You're not out a bunch of money if they don't work.  I like that they talk OE and DOT in the add. And that they have the good OE style wide adjustment in the mirror pivots.  It does not say if the glass is flat or convex; convex is standard on most bikes (images slightly smaller than real)(and probably DOT).  Flat glass does not work as well for adequate coverage behind you.

Maybe my assessment (guess) that mine are Yamaha is wrong.  I always went by the shape only (and my wife had a Yamaha with mirrors that looked like that).  They have 10mm mounts which is correct.  I seem to have a vague recollection that some metric mirrors (maybe only one brand) screw on counter and clockwise on each side, so you have to separate lefts and rights**, which I'm pretty sure Honda is NOT.  These say they are for Honda, Kawi and Suzi, but not Yamaha.

The chrome may not be perfect, but for $20 a pair, you keep some wax on them.

I suppose I could get off my ass and go out and measure the ones on my bike to see if they are the same as the nice spec measurements in this add.  Tomorrow, if I remember.  

If you do get them, please report back on fit and if they work for you.  Mine are OK, but are probably nearly as old as the bike.  And I might stick some on my other bike too, if they work for you.  Again, mine have the arms turned around so they mostly go up, not out.  There has to be a lot of  adjustment built into the mirror pivots for that to work.

I cannot imagine there are extra import fees or duties from Taiwan. (from the add)

** I found this on line.... Some Yamaha/Ducati mirrors, however, have a reversed/anti clockwise thread and a standard/clockwise thread.  Reverse thread mostly found on the right hand side mirrors (view from the bike seat)

Edit:  Matter of fact, since I don't do Ebay (much) or paypal, maybe you could order me a pair too.  I could fire you a $35 check for mirrors and postage to VA.

I also have VTX mirrors... believe they may be the same as used on some Yamaha bikes. Never liked the looks of the stock square IS mirrors... everything about the bike's profile is curved, smooth edges and then the big square mirrors. These Honda and Yamaha teardrop ones really fit the profile of the fairing nicely, don't have the black rubber insert, and are of good quality... still look like new after 10-12 years or whenever I got them. Never had an issue with respect to functionality either.
