2014 Valkyrie. I note the standard Dunlop rear tire size is: 180/55/17. Unfortunately Shinko here in the Philippines doesn’t have that size. However, they do have 190/50/17. Wondering if this will fit? Looks like a great tire (Shinko VERGE 016 Dual Compound). Any advice would be great. Options limited here...

AHHH..so you know, I bought a Shinko 'Advanced' rear tire for my Warrior.  IT SUCKED!!  Slippery as hell and was not flat on it's sidewalls...  I only put about 800 miles on it...could not get it off fast enough. Put on an Avon XM 3D...the clouds parted and God himself spoke to me!  HUGE difference.  I put a Verge on the front...it's a much better tire, but is wearing very quickly.

You can get an Avon in the PROPER size for the back as well as the Michelin GT4..either tire is spectacular...and just get either the Avon 120/70 -19 for the front in either make and you'll be good.  Stay away from Shinko.  You get what you pay for man...tires are nothing to mess with.

Shinko = Stinko

I would never use those tires.  Heard way too much bad stuff about them.

OK. Unfortunately I only have Shinko and possibly Perilli (Night Dragon?) options. Is it a case of putting on the original size, or have others put slightly different sizes on the bike successfully? The 180/55/17 is not available anywhere here at the moment. But I don’t mind ordering a set and waiting if that’s the only option. Are the Pirelli’s OK or are they rubbish too?

I understand Metzeler were bought by Pirelli? Which is probably why the Metzeler tires have vanished from the Philippines too...

FYI. Avon were also suggested for my 1500 Valk, but can’t get them in the Philippines, so I modded the rear fender and I am currently running dark side Yokohama with good results (apart from Bike feeling clumsy in traffic).

I like Avon Cobras on my 1500, but the only Avon I've tried on
the 1800 lasted less than 2,000 miles.

Some of the best riders around here use Shinkos and like them,
don't be afraid to try one and see what you think.

If you can get a Pirelli Angel GT (spec A), that will work pretty well
on the 1800...

Curly, I run Shinkos on several of my bikes and have never had an issue with them.  I run the 009 series.  That is listed as their longest mileage tire. My 1800 Valk has one now, front and back.   Shinko 009 Raven Rear 180/55ZR17 Motorcycle Tire for the rear

I would be interested to know the mileage you have and end up getting on that.

I just bookmarked a page for Shinko 009s... I think I might try a set
of them on my 1800 next time around.

I installed the front at  3/15/2017   8800   New front tire  shinko 777 installed
(I thought it was a 009.  Guess they were out of that size.)

I installed the rear at  6/19/2017   10752   new rear tire  shinko 009
The tires are still in good shape and I am bouncing on twenty thousand mile's door.  I will change them no matter what before I leave for Inzane.
